West Virginia To Honor
Don Knotts
Don Knotts will get the first star on what could become West Virginia's version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 80-year-old Knotts, a Morgantown native, is best known for his role as the bumbling Deputy Barney Fife on television's "The Andy Griffith Show" and as would-be swinger landlord Ralph Furley on "Three's Company." He'll be the voice of Turkey Mayor in the upcoming animated movie "Chicken Little."
Knotts will be honored by his hometown Aug. 12-15 with a parade, a film festival and a local beer to be brewed and named in his honor.

Begins Sierra Leone Goodwill Trip
Angelina Jolie
Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie began a goodwill trip Monday to Sierra Leone to meet survivors of this battered West African nation's devastating war and urge authorities to make public the recommendations of a special commission set up to reconcile the nation.
Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees since 2001, flew to Freetown late Monday, agency spokeswoman Rachel Goldstein-Rodriguez said.
Sierra Leone's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, set up after a brutal 10-year-war ended in 2002, has collected thousands of written statements documenting atrocities and held public hearings in a bid to offer victims a shot at catharsis by recounting their tales.
The visit will be Jolie's second. She first toured Sierra Leone in 2001.

Wins Cybersquatting Case
Morgan Freeman
American actor Morgan Freeman, winner of this year's best supporting actor Oscar for his performance in "Million Dollar Baby," won a cybersquatting case in a ruling by an international arbitrator on Tuesday.
Freeman was found to have common law rights to the contested Internet domain name, which had been registered by a Saint Kitts and Nevis-based web site operator.
The operator, identified as Mighty LLC, misused the celebrity's trademark to lure surfers to its web site in "bad faith," independent arbitrator Peter Nitter said in a ruling.
The ruling was announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a United Nations agency which promotes protection of trademarks and patents, and whose arbitration center resolves disputes over domain names.

Street To Be Renamed
O'Jays
Canton (Ohio) City Council voted to rename part of a street after Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The O'Jays, despite protests from residents.
Eight council members voted for the change, with two abstaining and one voting against naming the street after the singing group that got its start in this northeast Ohio city.
The O'Jays, whose songs include "Back Stabbers," "Love Train" and "For the Love of Money," were inducted this year into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland.

Each episode will bring together two innovators from different fields, including film and television, architecture and design, fashion, food, music and sports. The series is the first project for Grey Goose Entertainment, the new production arm of Bacardi's Grey Goose Vodka, which hopes to extend its high-end vodka brand by creating entertainment that appeals to its consumer base.

Signs Deal With Nickelodeon
Andre 3000
Andre 3000 says kids' movies need to be edgier - and he plans to make it happen through a new deal with Nickelodeon and MTV.
As part of the deal, Andre, one-half of the multiplatinum duo OutKast, is set to star in a new Nick Movies film, "The Hit," which he will also co-produce. It's about a fifth-grader, seeking a new wife for his father, who discovers his next-door neighbor is Cupid.
The deal also gives MTV Networks the option to produce feature films and TV projects by Andre - and he has a lot of ideas to develop.

Exits CNBC
Tina Brown
CNBC weekend talk show host Tina Brown -- whose chats with such luminaries as Leslie Moonves, John McCain and George Clooney were a staple of CNBC weekend primetime for two years -- will leave the network at month's end.
Brown asked CNBC chief Mark Hoffman whether she could stop doing the show to focus on a book she's writing for Doubleday on the late Princess Diana. The one-time publishing executive of the New Yorker and Vanity Fair will require several trips from New York, where she lives, to London in the coming months, according to CNBC, and it would interfere with her ability to do the show. The book will be published in 2007, on the 10th anniversary of Diana's death.
"Topic A With Tina Brown" has been on the business news channel on weekend primetime since 2003. Its last show will be May 29. There's no word on what will replace "Topic A," though it could possibly be a repeat of some of CNBC's business news programming.

Compounding Problems
Mindy McCready
A former boyfriend of country singer Mindy McCready has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly breaking into her home and beating her up.
William McKnight was also charged with aggravated burglary in the incident early Sunday. He was being held Monday in lieu of $130,000 bond.
McCready, who had a No. 1 hit in 1996 with "Guys Do It All the Time," was treated and released at a hospital following the attack, according to broadcast reports.
Last Friday, McCready, 28, was charged with drunken driving after police stopped her in the upscale suburb of Belle Meade for speeding. Police said the officer smelled alcohol in the vehicle and McCready performed poorly on field sobriety tests. She refused to take a breath test.
McCready was also charged with driving on a suspended license and failure to consent to the breath test, according to police. She was freed on $3,500 bond.

2,000-Year-Old Shoe
Now this is an old shoe. Archaeologists said Tuesday they found a 2,000-year-old shoe hidden in a hollow tree used to construct an ancient well near Wellington in southwest England.
"As far as we know, this is the oldest shoe ever found in the United Kingdom," said Stephen Reed, who led the team from Exeter Archaeology that made the find. "It is reasonably well-preserved, with stitch and lace holes still visible in the leather."
The shoe is being studied in Salisbury, southwest England, and is expected to be displayed at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter.

'Liz' Sells For $12.6 Million
Andy Warhol
Contemporary and post-war art sold respectably if not spectacularly at Sotheby's on Tuesday led by "Liz," Andy Warhol's portrait of actress Elizabeth Taylor, which fetched $12,616,000.
The vibrant Warhol silkscreen from 1963 was easily the top lot of the auction which took in just over $68 million, or $5 million above the low pre-sale estimate.
Strong prices were also achieved by a group of Roy Lichtenstein works being sold by the estate of slain designer Gianni Versace. Led by "Blue Nude, which soared to $5,280,000, the five works took in some $8.5 million.
