Jazz From Hills

Trimmed Bush and Hedges

BUSH IS A FLUNKIE

Why it took an election and another year of Bunnypants is beyond the imagination, but it seems his popularity is sliding, rather spriraling downward. He's running out of excuses for the miserable shape this country is in.

Things are not better in Iraq. They are not better domestically. Our allies are becoming sort of semi-allies. Our deficit is skyrocketing. We need more troops in Iraq to finish the job but Bush won't admit that he fucked up miscalculating every damn thing about the war. Yet every word out of the Pentagon or the administration is that things are improving. His monkey face is becoming unbearable as he looks into the camera and says we're doin' just fine. He needs to go to the reality bank and open an account to get the free toaster.

Senator Joe Biden is actually laying some shit on the table that needs to be looked at so we can exit Iraq without having that region that is so vital for oil blow up into a world war. These insurgents are sacrificing themselves with suicide bombings that will have to stop soon or the Iraqis who want freedom will turn around and say that's enough. Biden says we HAVE TO GET MORE GROUND TROOPS. No more shock and awe bullshit. We are fighting an insurgency that made Hussein's Royal Guard look like a volunteer fire brigade. We essentially have another war on our hands that must be won or that region will be an open battlefield.

Bunnypants has yet to realize the urgency that our troops need help. The shock and awe campaign was a failure. Face up to it and get a strategy to beat the shit out of the insurgents. The problem is that Bunnypants has no strategy. This idiot is supposedly worried about Social Security 45 years down the road as our Marines are perishing. Focus, George. You have a very dangerous bloody war still going on, sir. No mission has been accomplished when your enemy is willing to sacrifice themselves so they can cause terror blowing themselves and lots of others to pieces.. It's time to fight them with their own tactics. We have troops trained in guerilla warfare. We need them now.

Are the Syrians supplying the majority of Jihad? If they are, infiltrate and kill them. Capturing the son of a bitch that was responsible for 9/11 would be a boost for the country, as well. It seems like bin Laden is rarely mentioned these days with the exception of this new CIA guy who says HE knows where the guy is. He said it was politics that prevented us from getting him. I'd say political protocol has been violated by that man, and we'll get him wherever he might reside. C'mon, you fuckin' liars, do you really know where he is?

It sickens me when it seems like it has become blase when a newsperson rips through the news saying 23 Iraqis and three marines were blown up yesterday. I'm viewing the 5:30 Action Seven news as I write.

First comes the LATE BREAKING WEATHER (THAT BLEW THE ROOF OF FARMINGTON FIRE DEPARTMENT), that's what just came across first. Then they went to the weather to say every thing was gonna be fine... God almighty. It's been seven minutes and no mention of Iraq. It's disgusting. Let's see more newsdrones!!!!

Wins Humanitas Prize

'Hotel Rwanda'

The screenwriters of "Hotel Rwanda" won the Humanitas Prize on Wednesday for their story based on a hotel manager's efforts to shelter victims of Rwanda's 1994 genocide.

Writers Keir Pearson and Terry George received $25,000 in recognition of the film's "reminder of the importance and duty of universal concern," the Humanitas Prize organization said.

For the first time in 31 years, however, voters chose not to award a prize in the sitcom category because none of the scripts submitted measured up to standards, Humanitas Prize President Frank Desiderio said.

Other winners of the screenwriting awards:
   • Ruben Santiago-Hudson won $25,000 for "Lackawanna Blues," a music- and dance-filled HBO movie based on his experiences growing up in a boardinghouse in the 1950s and '60s.
   • Michael Kang received $10,000 for "The Motel," a film about a lonely 13-year-old boy who befriends a resident at his parents' hourly rate motel.
   • John Wells won $15,000 for an episode of NBC's "The West Wing" in which the president calls for peace talks after Americans are killed by Palestinian terrorists.
   • Kelly Ward and Cliff MacGillivray received $25,000 for an episode of the animated PBS children's series "Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks" in which Piggley Winks helps a friend grieve over a pet fish's death.
   • Karen Leigh Hopkins and Alan Marc Levy won $25,000 for the ABC Family TV movie "Searching for David's Heart" about a teen girl coping with her older brother's death.
   • Film school graduate Erika Kennair received $10,000 for a spec script for "The Bernie Mac Show." Aspiring screenwriters write spec scripts for existing shows but they are not typically produced.

NBC Drops Plans

'9/11' Miniseries

NBC has dropped plans for a highly touted miniseries based on the best-selling official narrative of the Sept. 11 attacks, but producers expect a cable network to pick up the project, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

An NBC insider said a key consideration in shelving the project was a similar program that rival broadcaster ABC was seeking to get onto its airwaves first. "We're not going to rush a project of this magnitude," the person said.

An ABC spokeswoman said the Walt Disney Co.-owned network is proceeding with its own six-hour miniseries based on the "9/11 Commission Report," which it hopes to air sometime in early 2006.

More Idiocy From Texas

Mikhael Rawls

Singing soprano is for girls only in Texas' elite All-State Choir, eliminating a 17-year-old boy's chance to audition for a statewide honor and raising questions about gender discrimination.

The Texas Music Educators Association on June 15 denied a request from Mikhael Rawls to audition this fall as a soprano, a part traditionally sung by girls.

Rawls sings countertenor, a little known male voice part that has surged in popularity in classical and operatic circles. He can sing an octave and a half higher than most boys his age, and he feels most comfortable singing in that range.

He has even won first place as a soprano in the University Interscholastic League's competition two years in a row.

The Musical

'Tarzan'

"Tarzan," the musical, will swing on Broadway next spring. A lavish stage version - with a cast of 34 - will open in 2006 at a theater to be announced, Thomas Schumacher, president of Disney Theatrical Productions, said Wednesday.

The musical, with a score by Phil Collins, is based on the 1999 Disney animated film which featured the voice of Tony Goldwyn as Tarzan and the voice of Minnie Driver as Jane. No casting has been announced for the Broadway version.

"Tarzan" will be directed by Bob Crowley, who will also design the show's sets and costumes. Crowley is best known for his sets and costume designs for Disney's "Aida" and the 1994 Lincoln Center Theater revival of "Carousel."

'Roger Rabbit' Verdict

Disney

The Walt Disney Co. must pay "Roger Rabbit" creator Gary Wolf at least $180,000 in underreported royalties, but the media giant prevailed on the larger issue of whether gross receipts must include the value of promotional deals.

The 15-week jury trial in Los Angeles Superior Court could leave Wolf with as much as $400,000 in damages but not the $8 million he had sought by claiming that his 5% royalty extended to the noncash value of promotional tie-ins with McDonald's and other outlets.

The case was closely watched in the entertainment industry because it could have profoundly altered the traditional notion that noncash promotional deals do not count toward gross receipts.

In the end, the jury found in favor of Disney's interpretation of gross receipts as meaning monies and things that are converted to money.

Seeks Divorce From Groove

Terry McMillan

Author Terry McMillan has filed for divorce from the man who inspired the 1996 novel "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," which chronicled the romantic adventures of a 40-something woman who falls for a guy half her age.

In papers filed in Contra Costa County Superior Court, McMillan, 53, says she decided to end her 6 1/2-year marriage to Jonathan Plummer, 30, after learning he is gay.

The revelation led her to conclude Plummer married only to get his U.S. citizenship, she said. McMillan met Plummer at a Jamaican resort a decade ago.

ABC Pulls Reality Series

'Welcome to the Neighborhood'

"Welcome to the Neighborhood," an ABC reality series that pushes hot buttons of racism and anti-homosexuality, was pulled by the network before its debut.

The six-episode show, which was to debut July 10, follows three families in Austin, Texas, who are given the chance to choose a new neighbor for a house on their street.

They must choose from families that are black, Hispanic and Asian; two gay white men who've adopted a black child; a couple covered in tattoos and piercings; a couple who met at the woman's initiation as a witch; and a poor white family.

Draws Career-Low TV Audience

Iraq Speech

Resident Bush's latest address to the nation, urging Americans to stand firm in Iraq, drew the smallest TV audience of his tenure, Nielsen Media Research reported on Wednesday.

Live coverage of Bush's half-hour speech on Tuesday night from the Ft. Bragg military base in North Carolina averaged 23 million viewers combined on four major U.S. broadcast networks and three leading cable news channels, Nielsen said.

Designed largely to bolster sagging public support for the persistently bloody conflict in Iraq, the speech fell 8.6 million viewers shy of Bush's previous low as president, his Aug. 9, 2001 address on stem cell research, which was carried on six networks.

Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter was ordered into a three-month alcohol treatment program after pleading guilty to drunk driving.

Carter, 25, entered the plea Tuesday in Orange County Superior Court. The judge also ordered Carter to pay $1,200 in fines, placed him on three years' informal probation and restricted his driving privileges for 90 days, said Deputy District Attorney Tate McCallister.

The singer has said through his publicist that he was on prescription medication at the time "and was unaware of its interaction possibilities."

Robert Clark

Robert Clark, a college president best known for his support of sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos following their civil rights protest on the medal podium at the 1968 Olympics, died Tuesday. He was 95.

Clark was president of San Jose State College in the 1960s when the two sprinters, who both attended the school, raised their gloved fists and bowed their heads in protest during the playing of the national anthem at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City - one of the most indelible moments of the modern games.

After the protest, Smith and Carlos were kicked out of the Olympic village and made a target of scorn nationwide. Back at San Jose State, however, Clark called them "honorable young men."

"My father was always opening his door to the angry and saying 'You may be right,'" his daughter, Suzanne Clark, said in a statement. "This was true whether the rebellious one was an eight-year-old or Vietnam protesters carrying torches."

Chris Griffin

Chris Griffin, a member of the acclaimed trumpet section in Benny Goodman's big-band orchestra, has died. Griffin, 89, died June 18 at Danbury Hospital. The cause was melanoma, according to his fiancee, Louise Baranger.

Griffin was a member of what critics called "The Biting Brass" trumpet threesome in Goodman's orchestra, playing alongside Harry James and Ziggy Elman. Duke Ellington once called the three "the greatest trumpet section that ever was."

Born in Binghamton, N.Y., on Oct. 31, 1915, Griffin learned to play the horn at age 12 and moved to New York City as a teen to become a musician.

After leaving Goodman's orchestra, he went on to play lead trumpet in television orchestras, including the "Ed Sullivan Show" and the "Jackie Gleason Show."

Domino Harvey

Domino Harvey, a model-turned-bounty hunter whose life is being depicted in the upcoming action movie "Domino," died Monday. She was 35.

The British-born Harvey was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, said coroner's Lt. Larry Deitz. She was taken to the hospital after being found in her West Hollywood home, police said.

Harvey, the daughter of the original "The Manchurian Candidate" star Laurence Harvey, gave up a lucrative Ford modeling career and socialite life to become a bounty hunter.

She was arrested in West Hollywood in May on drug charges. She also faced federal charges of conspiring to distribute drugs, crossing state lines for unlawful activity and having property used in or obtained through criminal activity.

"Domino" (view trailer)  is scheduled for release on Nov. 4.

Welcome !

You have reached the Home page of BartCop Entertainment.
Make yourself home, take your shoes off...
Go ahead, scratch it if it itches.

The idea is to have fun.

Do you have something to say?
Anything that increased your blood pressure, or, even better, amused or entertained?

Do you have a great album no one's heard?
How about a favorite TV show, movie, book, play, cartoon, or legal amusement?
A popular artist that just plain pisses you off?
A box set the whole world should own?
Vile, filthy rumors about Republican musicians?
Just plain vile, filthy rumors?
This is your place.

(In other words, submissions are welcome.)
