Purple Gene Reviews
Gwen Stefani on 'Ellen'
Purple Genes' review of Gwen Stefani on the Ellen DeGeneres Show (Warner Brothers):
I absolutely love Gwen Stefani…..with "No Doubt" ! singing fucking Reggae/Ska/Dancehall…."Do you really love me…underneath it all" !!!!!!
I absolutely do not love Gwen Stefani singing "Rich Girl" with Eve on the Ellen Show….selling her new line of personal Cell phones, purses, clothing and accessories…..and one more thing…..
Gwen has a serious NECK problem ! As she is semi-singing "Rich Girl" with Eve on Ellens' outdoor stage in LA, I noticed two horrendous bulging old lady VEINS popping out of her NECK….I mean…."Call Make-up"!!!! Neck Alert - Neck Alert…and it wasn't even that she was straining to belt the song out…she was just sashaying around the stage mouthing the dumb "na na na na na" words and posing with Eve…..
Fatal Veinage….terminal….scary…..It's so bad that I think Gwen needs to start a line of Japanese turtlenecks…"Harajuku Lovers multi-colored neck bands" !!!!!!!!
I'm sorry Gwen…if you read this…I still love you but fuck the commercial bullshit! Get back in the studio with Dunbar & Shakespear and get off the fashion wagon…
Purple Gene gives Gwen 10 for her hair but 0 for her neck!

Honored in L.A.
Paul Simon
Still revered after all these years, Paul Simon was honored in Beverly Hills on Tuesday as artists ranging from former Beach Boy Brian Wilson to neo-soul singer Joss Stone sang his hits during performing rights group BMI's annual pop awards.
Simon, 63, received BMI's Icon Award in recognition of his "unique and indelible influence on music makers," following in the footsteps of such previous honorees as Wilson, Chuck Berry, James Brown and Van Morrison.
Backed by a band, Wilson, gospel artist Yolanda Adams and Maroon5 members Adam Levine and James Valentine revisited his Simon & Garfunkel days, singing "The Sound of Silence," "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Homeward Bound," respectively. Stone added some reggae flavor with "Mother and Child Reunion."
Elsewhere, chalice-wielding "crunk" rapper Lil Jon was named BMI's songwriter of the year for his work on four songs, including Usher's "Yeah!" and Petey Pablo's "Freek-a-Leek." Mississippi rock band 3 Doors Down nabbed the song of the year prize for "Here Without You."

New Columnist
Garrison Keillor
Early one morning last year, humorists Garrison Keillor and Dave Barry were sharing a van as they headed to the airport from a Spokane, Wash., hotel.
"We were having a little conversation about newspaper columns, and I was telling Dave why he ought to keep doing his," Keillor recalled in an E&P phone interview. "He said, 'Why don't you do one?'"
Barry didn't take Keillor's advice, but Keillor took Barry's. On July 3 -- about six months after Barry began an indefinite leave of absence from his Miami Herald/Tribune Media Services column -- Keillor will start writing a feature for TMS.
For the rest - Garrison Keillor

TV Update A Hit For Beeb
Doctor Who
A time-travelling blast from the past - and the future - has become one of the biggest hits of Britain's television present.
A BBC update of the hugely popular science fiction series Doctor Who, complete with killer robots from outer space and a rickety wooden police box that zips through the millennia, has introduced a new generation of viewers to a TV classic that originally ran from 1963 to 1989.
The new season, 13 episodes running through June, is packed with oddball aliens and frequent opportunities for the two heroes to save humankind.
It's a welcome return for fans who'd been waiting more than 15 years for the comeback of the Doctor - an alien "Time Lord" who's taken the form of nine different human actors in the course of the show - and his assistant, this time a working-class London girl named Rose Tyler.

$1.5M Bus Stop - Republican Pork
Anchorage
Tom Wilson is faced with a problem many city administrators would envy: How to spend $1.5 million on a bus stop.
Wilson, Anchorage's director of public transportation, has all that money for a new and improved bus stop outside the Anchorage Museum of History and Art thanks to Republican Sen. Ted Stevens - fondly referred to by Alaskans as "Uncle Ted" for his prodigious ability to secure federal dollars for his home state.
The bus stop there now is a simple steel-and-glass, three-sided enclosure. Wilson wants better lighting and seating. He also likes the idea of heated sidewalks that would remain free of snow and ice. And he thinks electronic signs would be nice.
The money was contained in a $388 billion spending bill passed by Congress last November, when Stevens was head of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Adam Sandler wrote "Hi to everyone" and left his handprints and prints of his shoes in cement at the fabled Grauman's Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.
The ceremony Tuesday coincided with the upcoming release of his latest film, "The Longest Yard," set to open May 27.
"Today's one of the first times when I'm just sitting back and doing what my father told me and enjoying the moment and enjoying the fact that this is a terrific feeling," the 38-year-old actor-comedian told an audience that included Jack Nicholson, Rob Schneider and Kathy Bates.

This image provided by the Octagon shows New Zealand artist Peter Waddell's painting 'Building The House of The Temple,' part of an exhibit at the Octagon in Washington, D.C. entitled: 'The Initiated Eye: Secrets, Symbols, Freemasonry and the Architecture of Washington D.C.' Some of the most famous buildings in Washington, including the White House, are deeply marked by Freemasonry, the brotherhood that goes back to the cathedral builders of the Middle Ages, says the new exhibit. The Octagon, one of the oldest houses in Washington, is where the treaty was signed ending the War of 1812. The House of The Temple is the headquarters building of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdicton, U.S.A.

Renewals & Cancellations
CBS
CBS on Wednesday canceled "Judging Amy," "Joan of Arcadia" and the Wednesday edition of "60 Minutes" as the nation's most popular network tries to attract younger viewers.
"Two and a Half Men," the highest-rated situation comedy left on broadcast television, will move into the 9 p.m. Monday slot vacated by "Everybody Loves Raymond," which drew a series-high 33 million viewers to its finale this week.
Four of the five prime-time CBS programs with the oldest audience were removed from the schedule. CBS also canceled the Jason Alexander comedy "Listen Up" and the long-running military drama "JAG" stopped production. The Sunday "60 Minutes" remains as the CBS show with the oldest audience.
"King of Queens" returns to CBS's Monday comedy lineup, joined by two new shows: "How I Met Your Mother," a "Friends"-like romantic story created by two of David Letterman's former writers; and "Out of Practice," about a dysfunctional family of doctors, created by the team behind "Frasier."

Richard Burton's widow is opening his private papers to public view at Swansea University in his native Wales, she announced Wednesday.
Sally Burton, the actor's fourth wife, donated the collection of his diaries, books, letters and tapes to the university, where they will eventually be used to develop the Richard Burton Center for Film and Popular Culture, not far from Port Talbot, where he grew up.
The university did not say when the papers would be opened to the public. Access to some of the most private material, including diaries, will be restricted at the wish of Sally Burton and her husband's daughter Kate Burton.

Agrees to Talks Over Nazi-Looted Art
Maria Altmann
A woman seeking the return of nearly $200 million worth of paintings stolen from her family after the Nazi invasion of Austria has agreed to arbitration with the Austrian government, her lawyer said Wednesday.
Maria Altmann, 89, has fought since 1998 to reclaim six Gustav Klimt paintings - including a colorful, gold-infused portrait of her aunt.
The Nazis seized the paintings from Altmann's wealthy Jewish family - including works that now hang in the Austrian Gallery - soon after they came to power in 1938.
Among the paintings, the gold-encrusted "Adele Bloch-Bauer I" is one of Klimt's most famous pieces, similar in style to the world renowned "The Kiss."

In Memory
Frank Gorshin
Frank Gorshin, the impressionist with 100 faces best known for his Emmy-nominated role as the Riddler on the "Batman" TV series, has died. He was 72.
Gorshin's wife of 48 years, Christina, was at his side when he died Tuesday at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, his agent and longtime friend, Fred Wostbrock, said Wednesday.
Despite dozens of TV and movie credits, Gorshin will be forever remembered for his role as the Riddler, Adam West's villainous foil in the question mark-pocked green suit and bowler hat on "Batman" from 1966 to '69.
Gorshin earned another Emmy nomination for one for a guest shot on "Star Trek," a 1969 episode called "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield."
In 2002, Gorshin portrayed George Burns on Broadway in the one-man show "Say Goodnight Gracie." He used only a little makeup and no prosthetics.
Gorshin's final performance will be broadcast on Thursday's CBS series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
Born in Pittsburgh, Gorshin broke into show business in New York. He did more than 40 impressions, including Al Jolson, Kirk Douglas, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin and James Cagney.
Later, he took his impressions to "The Ed Sullivan Show" on a memorable evening - the same night the Beatles were featured. He did impressions in Las Vegas showrooms, opening for Darin and paving the way for other impressionists like Rich Little.
Gorshin's movie roles included "Bells are Ringing" (1960) with his idol Dean Martin and a batch of fun B-movies such as "Hot Rod Girl" (1956), "Dragstrip Girl" (1957) and "Invasion of the Saucer Men" (1957).
His other TV credits included roles on "General Hospital, "The Edge of Night" and "The Munsters" as well as guest appearances on "Donny & Marie," "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," "Murder, She Wrote," "The Fall Guy," "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century," "Wonder Woman," "Charlie's Angels" and "Police Woman."
Besides his wife, Gorshin leaves his son Mitchell Gorshin of Orlando, Fla., and sister Dottie Roland of Pittsburgh.
