Tonight

Erin Hart Show

Please join Erin Hart 9pm to 1am PST Saturday and Sunday on 710 KIRO.

Also when she fills in for Mike Webb on December 22nd, 23rd, and 26th.

And on Boulder's Progressive Talk AM760.net on Dec 27th and 28th, from 5am to 9am PST.

What a week. Iraq and Bush lies; Iraq and the election; NSA and spying on us (but Bush claims he didn't break the law, whew, I feel better).

The House gangs up with John McCain and Senate and Bush LOSES on torture, imagine our relief. And Bushie claims DeLay is innocent, hummmmm, does anyone believe ANYTHING he says? Watch his Sunday Oval speech and discuss.

Sunday, Professors Michelle LaFrance and her fiance Jim Fitzmorris join us to talk about New Orleans and the real truth on the bayou.

Local topics include the viaduct v. tunnel (thanks David Della!) and the new home for chronic alcoholics on Eastlake.

Plus a holiday topic or two. Pedro is learning to play "dog hockey" and thriving in the cold.

Audio streams live - 710KIRO.com.

Holiday Princess: A Princess Diaries Book by Meg Cabot (Review by Lynn Bronikowski, rockymountainnews.com)
Plot in a nutshell: Through the voice of her celebrated character, Her Royal Highness Princess Mia, the author of the best-selling Princess Diaries novels presents a whimsical contemporary teen how-to on celebrating the holidays that's as yummy as the season's first sip of Starbucks eggnog latte. Whether celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Wiccans' Yule, New Year's Day, Chinese New Year or traditions around the world, Her Royal Highness dishes up etiquette and worldly advice to princesses everywhere with a priggish and amusing air.

Roger Ebert: Ellie Parker (3 stars)
This is the movie they should show in college acting classes, instead of tapes of "Inside the Actors' Studio." It is about auditioning for an idiotic Southern Gothic soap opera and then changing your makeup and accent in the car on your way to audition as a hooker in a soft-core sex film. About trying to impress a group of "producers" who are so stoned they don't have a sober brain cell to pass from hand to hand around the room. About suspecting that the only thing worse than not getting the job would be to get it.

Roger Ebert: Junebug (4 stars)
"Junebug" is a great film because it is a true film. It humbles other films that claim to be about family secrets and eccentricities. It understands that families are complicated and their problems are not solved during a short visit, just in time for the film to end. Families and their problems go on and on, and they aren't solved, they're dealt wit

Purple Gene Reviews

'Blowfly'

Purple Gene's review of the Miami Funk/Disco rappin' Dirty Old Man known as "Blowfly" (Clarence Reid) live at the "Down-Low" nightclub in Berkeley:

I was told by some old dudes that came to see Blowfly that he is one lewd and lascivious leering and lecherous pornographic novelty act. I had just spent the morning watching Howard Stern exit the terrestrial radio format with his cadre of pimps and crack whores, midgets and strippers, stutterers and marathon farters on their way to Satellite Radio Freedom! I wondered why Blowfly wasn't back in New York singing "Dick the Hoes" to the tune of "Deck the Halls" with Stern's Whack Pack ?

My son, D.J. Smokey said "You gotta see this guy dad…he's really disgusting!" So I went over to the club and started drinking Tequila…….

Blowfly was born in Georgia on Valentine's Day 60 years ago as Clarence Reid. His grandmother coined his name at age 7 when she heard him putting nasty words to top forty hit songs……she said…"Boy…you are nastier than a Blowfly". In the 60's he moved to Miami and recorded a reputable straight up Funk album under the Clarence Reid name. But by the early 70's , he started wearing outrageous capes and masks with white leggings and singing perverted parodies of current hits…"What a difference a Lay makes" got him in trouble. His influences were Moms Mabley, Redd Foxx and Dolomite!

Blowfly, just like "2 Live Crew" got banned in record stores and started his own label "Weird World" and just kept peddling is porn parodies.

Tonight, live at the Down-Low night club, the sexagenarian singer of sick smut, His Nastiness…..Blowfly…..

The paltry crowd of old school perverts and bums sprinkled with a number of curious white chicks who came to dance to Funk gave a spirited applause….wearing a silver cape and gold mask with silly looking leggings, Blowfly launched into "The First Time ever you Sucked my Dick"……followed by "If Eatin' you is wrong, I don't wanna be Right" …and then "Can I Come in your Mouth ?"……about now almost every female had exited the club feeling sick…..the filthy fools left were then treated with "Whole Lotta Fuckin' Goin' On" and "Diggin' Boogers" and finally "Blowfly's ABC's"

We got into the Christmas spirit with "Santa Claus is Comin' " and "Jingle Bell Cock" I couldn't take anymore of this sick mother fucker so I left!

Purple Gene gives Blowfly 1 crawl back into a creepy hole with that cape on cheer out of 10 for being the nastiest novelty act ever!

'The Republican War on Science'

Morgan Spurlock

"Super Size Me" filmmaker Morgan Spurlock plans a documentary on conservative US politicians' treatment of science, Hollywood press reported.

Spurlock has purchased the film rights to adapt a book, "The Republican War on Science," according to the entertainment industry newspaper Daily Variety.

The book by Chris Mooney argues that Republican stances on stem-cell research, global climate change and sex education, among other topics, show a conservative bias on environment, health and security issues.

To Appeal Ruling

ABC News

ABC News will appeal a ruling by a British employment panel that found the network unfairly dismissed a London-based freelancer because he refused an assignment to Iraq.

Richard Gizbert, a longtime war correspondent, claimed he had been sacked because he refused an assignment to Iraq. The 48-year-old Canadian had covered wars in Bosnia, Somalia and Chechnya for ABC News beginning in the early 1990s. But he didn't want to after he had children.

Last year, the network declined to renew his contract. ABC News said it made the decision for strictly financial reasons and not for his refusal. But the panel disagreed, saying that ABC News' testimony during the case was inconsistent. Gizbert is seeking $4 million in damages.

Huge Sculpture Stolen In Britain

Henry Moore

British police hunted for three men on Saturday who stole a huge bronze Henry Moore sculpture worth up to 3 million pounds ($5.30 million) and a spokesman said they feared the piece would be destroyed for scrap.

Police said the 3.5 meter long (11 ft 5.8 in) sculpture, "A Reclining Figure," was stolen from the Henry Moore Foundation in Hertfordshire, north of London, on Thursday night by three men who drove it away.

"This is a very valuable statue and we are working closely with the Henry Moore Foundation to ensure its safe return," Detective Sergeant Graeme Smith said, adding that the Foundation was offering "a substantial reward."

To Re-Create '56 Elvis Homecoming

Tupelo

Elvis Presley's 1956 homecoming, which featured a parade in downtown Tupelo and a concert, will be re-created as part of the eighth Elvis Presley Festival, June 2-4.

In 1956, Presley was honored with a parade down Main Street and proclaimed a favorite son by Gov. J.P. Coleman. The day was capped with a concert where Elvis was greeted by screaming fans during the Mississippi-Alabama State Fair and Dairy Show.

Presley was born in Tupelo but moved with his parents in 1948 to Memphis, Tenn., where he began his recording career.

Judge Issues Warrant

Todd Kevin Wallace

An arrest warrant has been issued for Todd Kevin Wallace, a photographer who allegedly struck a 5-year-old child with his camera while trying to take pictures of Reese Witherspoon and her children at an amusement park.

Wallace had been free on his own recognizance while awaiting trial on six misdemeanor charges stemming from the Sept. 2 incident at Disney's California Adventure.

He allegedly became angry when Witherspoon and her friends declined to be photographed and cursed them. Witherspoon's group was at the amusement park for a birthday party for her 6-year-old daughter.

Drops Suit Against Former Attorney

Phil Spector

Record producer Phil Spector, who is facing a murder trial, has dropped a lawsuit that claims he was cheated by his former attorney, Robert Shapiro.

Spector, 65, said he gave Shapiro a $1-million retainer after his February 2003 arrest for investigation of shooting to death B-movie actress Lana Clarkson at Spector's home in suburban Alhambra.

The lawsuit claimed Shapiro did "very little legal work" for Spector and that little amount was "incompetently done." It accused the attorney and his firm of using Spector's "legal plight as an opportunity to unabashedly line their own pockets."

Shapiro's attorney contended that Spector tried to break his contract with Shapiro by trying to get back some of the retainer after switching lawyers.

'On the Road' Manuscript in San Francisco

Jack Kerouac

Fans of Jack Kerouac's 1957 On the Road will soon have the chance to see a portion of the original 36-metre manuscript that inspired a subculture of restless beatniks.

Eleven metres, a little less than one-third of the yellowed scroll, will be available for viewing at the San Francisco Public Library from Jan. 14 to March 19. The exhibit at the Jewett Gallery will also include books and pictures that detail Kerouac's life and the history of the so-called Beat Generation.

On the Road was based on Kerouac's cross-country adventures with his friend Neal Cassady. Kerouac wrote the novel over a 20-day span in 1951 with the aid of coffee and the stimulant Benzedrine. He typed the novel on 3.6-metre-long rolls of tracing paper so he didn't have to pause to load paper in his typewriter.

In Memory

Jack Anderson

Jack Anderson, the crusading journalist who tackled powerful figures like J. Edgar Hoover and won a Pulitzer prize for his reporting on the Nixon administration, died on Saturday at age 83.

Anderson was hired by Drew Pearson in 1947 to work as a staffer on the column Pearson had founded, the Washington Merry-Go-Round, and later took it over after Pearson's death in 1969. He only gave up the column at age 81 in July 2004, too ill to continue it as Parkinson's disease took its toll.

Anderson also made it onto the former Nixon administration's "enemies list." G. Gordon Liddy, the Watergate conspirator, once said that he and other White House operatives discussed at the time how to stop Anderson including through slipping him drugs though no action was taken.

Anderson was born in Long Beach, California, to a Mormon family and grew up in Salt Lake City. He served two years as a missionary before launching his career at a local newspaper and then moving on to the Salt Lake Tribune in 1940.
