'60 Minutes' Tonight
Jon Stewart
After his outburst on CNN's "Crossfire," "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart will have a few words for "60 Minutes." The comedian will be profiled on this Sunday's broadcast of the CBS news program. Though taped before Stewart's harsh comments of "Crossfire" and one its hosts, Tucker Carlson, he did have the subject of TV news on his mind.
"You know ... what has become rewarded in political discourse is the extremity of viewpoint," Stewart says on the show. "People like the conflict. Conflict baby! It sells. Crossfire! Hardball! Shut up! You shut up!"
While many have questioned the veracity of the Fox News slogan "Fair and Balanced," Stewart thinks that frustration deserves to be leveled elsewhere as well.
"Well, CNN says, `You can depend on CNN.' Guess what? I watch CNN. No, you can't!"
"60 Minutes" airs on CBS Sunday at 7 p.m. (ET/PT).

Real Estate Agent Washed Off
'Survivor: Vanuatu'
Lisa Keiffer was the latest contestant washed off CBS' "Survivor: Vanuatu - Islands of Fire." The real estate agent and amateur soapmaker from New Orleans received four votes after fellow Yasur tribe member Ami Cusack was offended when Keiffer asked Cusack to reveal the tribe's food supply before tribal council. Cusack suspected an unfinished sentence meant she might be voted off the island.
"I made a comment that Ami blew out of proportion," Keiffer told the Associated Press Friday. "I think it was a case that I was well-liked and strong in challenges. I think I was a threat. She must have a trust issue with people, I guess."
Keiffer insists she and her all-female alliance had no intentions of sending Cusack packing, but the barista swayed everyone else in the tribe - except rancher Scout Cloud Lee - to vote off Keiffer.

Takes Vote Drive to Swing States
P. Diddy
Hip-hop mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs is following the lead of resident Bush and Sen. John Kerry by taking his get-out-the-vote campaign to the swing states.
Combs' Citizen Change initiative will launch a three-day get-out-the-vote drive starting Tuesday in Milwaukee and Detroit, followed by rallies in Cleveland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Miami. Combs said he will be joined by other celebrities, including actor Leonardo DiCaprio and singer Mary J. Blige.
Combs' drive - with its "Vote or Die" slogan - has recorded phone messages for 435,000 new voters across the country.
There are some 40 million eligible voters between ages 18 and 35, Combs said, a potent bloc that he says has been undercounted in polls and could be the deciding factor in a close race.

Calif. Stem Cell Campaign Ad
Christopher Reeve
Less than two weeks after his sudden death, actor Christopher Reeve on Friday began appearing in a taped appeal to Californians to vote for a controversial ballot measure that would fund a decade of stem cell research,
Reeve filmed the ad shortly before his death on Oct. 10, but proponents of California's Proposition 71 decided to go forward with the campaign after consulting his family.
The ad began airing on Friday, one day after Dana Reeve, the widow of the paralyzed actor, endorsed Democratic presidential challenger John Kerry. Kerry has urged expanded federal funding for stem cell research.
Proposition 71 has been backed by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in a break with the Republican party.

Band Seeks to Make Amends
Dave Matthews
The Dave Matthews Band said Friday it wants to make amends after one of its tour bus drivers was accused of dumping human waste on sightseers on the Chicago River, but it stopped short of accepting responsibility for the incident.
The Illinois Attorney General's office sued the band and the driver after the Aug. 8 incident, alleging that the driver emptied the vehicle's septic tank while crossing a bridge over the river, dousing more than 100 tour boat passengers with raw sewage.
The band said it had contacted the boat owner and tour operator to try to identify the affected passengers. The band also said it has suspended the driver and donating $50,000 each to the Chicago Park District and a nonprofit group that protects the Chicago River.
The lawsuit accused the band and driver of violating state water pollution and public nuisance laws.

Sues Topless Club
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has sued a Nevada topless club she said used her image for advertising and promotion without her permission. The lawsuit filed Thursday in U.S District Court in Los Angeles said The Spice House, which bills itself as "Reno's friendliest topless cabaret," displayed her picture on "numerous pages" of its Web site, sometimes alongside partially nude women.
That created the false impression the actress "endorsed or approved of the sexually explicit content" and could "dilute the value of her celebrity endorsement," the lawsuit says.
The star of "Chicago" and "Intolerable Cruelty" has never authorized the club or its owner, Wesglow Resources, to display her image, according to the lawsuit. She seeks unspecified damages and an order barring further use of her likeness.

Airs Anti-Kerry Material
Sinclair
Sinclair Broadcast's program featuring material from a documentary critical of John Kerry aired Friday night, devoting as much coverage to the controversy as the film that sparked the uproar.
The program contained a few minutes from the documentary, "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," as well as excerpts from a pro-Kerry documentary, interviews with veterans who support and oppose Kerry, and a segment on the impact of new media such as the Internet on politics.
Kerry did not appear in the program, but comments he made on the issue on the campaign trail were presented. The Kerry campaign issued a statement afterward saying Sinclair executives have given more than $100,000 to George W. Bush and the Republican Party.
"Tonight they supported him with millions of dollars of air time devoted to an anti-Kerry smear aimed at influencing the election," a Kerry spokesman said.
On Baltimore's WBFF, the program had only two sponsors, a local furniture store and a group dedicated to "personal responsibility and protecting consumer choice."
In Richmond, Va., a car dealer and the same group were the only advertisers, with the rest of the spots filled by promos for network shows and news programs.

Live in Refurbished Cabooses
Rail Buffs
John and Nellie Egan are at the end of the line - and that's where they like it. The semiretired train conductor and his wife spend their summers in a remodeled caboose parked on a railroad siding, alongside other refurbished cabooses owned by trainmen and railroad buffs.
In winter, the Egans live in a mobile home in Largo, Fla., but the caboose feels like John Egan's true home.
"I lived half my life in the caboose anyway, working on the railroad," Egan, 77, said recently, as he relaxed with a beer and a cigarette on his back patio, a small concrete pad with a picnic table, a few chairs and a view of New Hampshire's White Mountains.
The old wooden caboose, once a symbol of railroading in America, has found a second life as everything from Pennsylvania motel cabins to antique shops, railroad museums and private excursion cars for rail fans.
For the rest, Rail Buffs
