Tim Jones: A red state goes code blue for GOP (chicagotribune.com)
In the color-coded, Crayola world of politics, Ohio is a red state. But if one pays close attention--listening to the grumbles of unhappy voters, reading the poll numbers and catching the hang-dog expressions of Republicans--it's almost as if one can hear the drip-drip-dripping of the dye into the electoral paint can, changing the hue of the great state of Ohio ever closer to blue.
Another Republican Revealed as Sex Pervert: GOP Fundraiser and Husband of "Dancing With the Stars" Contestant
Alright, that's it. Are there any Republicans these days that aren't total sex perverts? We all know about FoleyGate, and just the other day BuzzFlash reported about the Wisconsin GOP nominee for Secretary of State whose lone campaign issue is her bountiful sexual history with members of the Green Bay Packers football team during the 1960s. Add Craig Schelske to the list of offenders.
Why Do Republicans Divorce More Often Than Democrats? (thinkingliberal.com)
Of the top 15 states for divorce rates in 2005, all 15 voted for Bush in 2004. All fifteen. Of the 12 lowest states for divorce rates, 10 voted for Kerry. Massachusetts, where gay marriage is allowed (and where, according to Republicans, civilization would fall apart), has the lowest divorce rate in the country.
Roger Ebert: Seventh time 'Up' for Apted
In 1964, director Michael Apted interviewed a group of seven-year-old British schoolchildren for a BBC television documentary called "7 Up." Apted, now known for directing such features as "Coal Miner's Daughter" and "Gorillas in the Mist," has since returned to film these subjects every seven years. They are now 49. Roger Ebert, who lists the "Up" series among his ten greatest films of all time, interviewed Apted in London for the release of the latest installment, "49 Up," which will be seen in American theaters beginning in October.
Purple Gene's review of Country Diva Sara Evan's new single "Cheatin' " :
Sweet Sara Lynn Evans was raised on a small farm near New Franklin, Missouri. By age 5 she was singing every weekend in her family's band. When she was 8 years old, she got hit by a car in front of her house…both of her legs were crushed! But Sara kept singing from a wheelchair to help pay her medical bills. At 16, she started a 2 year stint singing in a nightclub near Columbia, Missouri.
She moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1991 to become a Country Star…..that's when she met Craig Schelske…they were married in 1993 and moved to Oregon. They moved back to Nashville in 1995 and Sara got renowned songwriter Harlan Howard to hear her Demo…the rest is history….until what just happened to poor Sara!
Sara released the album "Three Chords and the Truth" in 1997 and then in 1998 released "No Place that Far". Her first # 1 hit came in 2000 with "Born to Fly". She had many top 10 Country hits and then another # 1 with "Suds in the Bucket"! Along with Clint Black, she sang for George Bush at the Republican National Convention in 2004.

I thought that this was her lowest point (along with appearing on Hannity and Colmes with Ann Coulter) but her little life was secretly spiraling down down down….
Everyone (including Tom Delay) thought that her appearance on "Dancing with the Stars" would be the Television Event of the year with references back to her sad accident as a child…little did anyone realize that her husband Craig, who was once a Conservative Republican congressional hopeful, was sitting at home with the 3 kids… watching Porn, screwing other women and taking over 100 pictures of his hard-on and putting them on the internet!
SARA EVANS IS A "VICTIM" OF A RIGHT WING SEX SCANDAL
TOM DELAY ON SUICIDE WATCH OVER SARA EVANS LEAVING "DANCING WITH THE STARS"
OCTOBER SURPRISE REVEALED - SARA EVAN'S BREASTS HAVE BEEN PUT ON "HOLD" FROM HER FANS
SARA EVANS FILES FOR "DIVORCE" FROM PERVERT CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL HOPEFUL
I am filled with sadness for Sara…..........not really!
This maven of Christian Conservative Family Values has been projecting her rather large bulbous breasts as a visual tool to sell records for the past 15 years…and it has worked….I "firmly" believe that while Tom Delay and the rest of the creepy Republicans were ogling Sara's supple sacs, Craig was left alone to masturbate….which is what most Republicans do……
This may be bigger than the Foley scandal, but I believe it will never be seen on FOX NEWS or on Hannity and Colmes…. They will not be doing any coverage of the real story concerning Women in America being victimized….
NEVER MARRY A REPUBLICAN!
!!!!
Oh…and coincidentally…Sara Evans has just released a new single called "Cheatin' "
Here's the words to the chorus….
"How do you like that paper plate
And those pork 'n' beans you're eatin'
Maybe you should've thought about that
When you were cheatin' "
Purple Gene gives Sara Evan's new single "Cheatin' " 2 tawdry tumescent titties out of 10 for being too late, too limp and too stupid to redeem her from being a victim. (I really like her song "Perfect"!)

For George Clooney, the awards just keep on comin'. In a year where he's already received an Oscar and a Golden Globe, the actor-director-producer has just collected another trophy: the 2006 American Cinematheque Award.
The American Cinematheque runs a number of film-fan and filmmaker-development programs, many held at Hollywood's historic Egyptian Theatre. The $500-plus-per-plate Clooney dinner-event at the Beverly Hilton was sold out. Among the attendees: Director Oliver Stone, entertainer Lindsay Lohan, actor-producer Salma Hayek, and actors Julia Roberts, Geoffrey Rush and Christian Slater.
The son of a TV newscaster and the nephew of stage, screen and recording legend Rosemary Clooney, one of George's early roles was on the TV series "The Facts of Life" in its 1986-87 season. The family friendly show was no critical darling, and it was well on the road to cancellation when Clooney and writer Paul Haggis were there.
Clooney's latest film, the black-and-white World War II drama "The Good German," begins a limited-release run Dec. 8, and opens nationwide Christmas Day. "George Clooney: An American Cinematheque Tribute" is set to air Dec. 13 on the American Movie Classics cable channel.
Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner and his three live-in girlfriends (L-R) Kendra Wilkinson Bridget Marquardt, and Holly Madison arrive at the American Cinematheque annual benefit gala in Beverly Hills, California October 13, 2006. Actor George Clooney will receive the 21st American Cinematheque Award at the gala.

Nicole Kidman began a tour of Kosovo on Saturday as a United Nations goodwill ambassador, pledging to provide a voice for the troubled province.
Kidman arrived in Kosovo's capital, Pristina, after attending the premiere of her movie "Fur" at the inaugural Rome Film Festival. She is to spend two days in Kosovo.
Kidman shook hands with Kosovo's top U.N. official, Joachim Ruecker, dozens of local leaders and diplomats attending a welcome reception.
The actress was named goodwill ambassador of the U.N. Development Fund for Women, or UNIFEM, in January 2006, and the tour of Kosovo is her first visit in that role.
She is expected to travel on Sunday to the southwestern town of Djakovica, among the hardest hit areas during the 1998-1999 war. Some 1,000 men disappeared from the town in the conflict.
Irish rock star Bono on Friday launched the U.S. version of his "Red" campaign that turns shopping into a funding stream to fight AIDS in Africa.
The program -- the brainchild of the U2 singer and Bobby Shriver, nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy -- encourages shoppers to buy Red-branded goods, while manufacturers pledge to channel a portion of the profits to AIDS programs financed by the U.N.-backed Global Fund.
The campaign has already raised about $10 million in Britain since its launch there earlier this year.
Gap is offering T-shirts and jeans, Motorola a red cell phone, Converse a series of limited edition shoes, Apple a red iPod nano and Giorgio Armani a collection of clothes and accessories -- all of which will carry the Red trademark and channel up to 50 percent of profits to the program.

TMZ has learned the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has gone after the deputy who arrested Mel Gibson with a vengeance. At the same time, it appears little has been done to determine if top brass gave Gibson special treatment and deceived the media.
Sheriff's sources confirm to TMZ that the Department obtained a search warrant and raided the home of Deputy James Mee on September 13th. We're told deputies went inside and took Mee's computer, phone records and other documents. Sheriff's Department sources say the Department got the warrant because officials believed Deputy Mee leaked four pages of the original arrest report to TMZ. The Sheriff's Department claims it's a crime for a law enforcement officer to leak confidential documents.
Meanwhile, the Sheriff's Department claims it is still investigating charges that Department officials gave Gibson special treatment and lied to the media the day of the arrest.
The day Gibson was busted, Sheriff's officials told TMZ and other media that the arrest occurred "without incident." Nothing could be further from the truth. Gibson acknowledged his out-of-control behavior on today's "Good Morning America."
Fox baseball broadcaster Steve Lyons has been fired for making a racially insensitive comment directed at colleague Lou Piniella's Hispanic heritage on the air during Game 3 of the American League championship series.
In the second inning of Friday's game between Detroit and Oakland, Piniella talked about the success light-hitting A's infielder Marco Scutaro had in the first round of the playoffs. Piniella said that slugger Frank Thomas and Eric Chavez needed to contribute, comparing Scutaro's production to finding a "wallet on Friday" and hoping it happened again the next week.
Later, Piniella said the A's needed Thomas to get "en fuego" - hot in Spanish - because he was currently "frio" - or cold. After Brennaman praised Piniella for being bilingual, Lyons spoke up.
Lyons said that Piniella was "hablaing Espanol" - butchering the conjugation for the word "to speak" - and added, "I still can't find my wallet."
"I don't understand him, and I don't want to sit too close to him now," Lyons continued.

Resident Bush keeps revising his explanation for why the U.S. is in Iraq, moving from narrow military objectives at first to history-of-civilization stakes now.
Initially, the rationale was specific: to stop Saddam Hussein from using what Bush claimed were the Iraqi leader's weapons of mass destruction or from selling them to al-Qaida or other terrorist groups.
But 3 1/2 years later, with no weapons found, still no end in sight and the war a liability for nearly all Republicans on the ballot Nov. 7, the justification has become far broader and now includes the expansive "struggle between good and evil."
Bush's changing rhetoric reflects increasing administration efforts to tie the war, increasingly unpopular at home, with the global fight against terrorism, still the president's strongest suit politically.

The latest Sacramento resident to be questioned by federal agents in possible threats against President Bush is a 14-year-old girl with a heart on her backpack and braces on her teeth, a freckle-nosed adolescent who is passionate about liberal politics and cute movie stars.
Her name is Julia Wilson, and she learned a vivid civics lesson Wednesday when two Secret Service agents pulled her out of biology class at McClatchy High School to ask about comments and images she posted on MySpace.
Beneath the words "Kill Bush," Julia posted a cartoonish photo-collage of a knife stabbing the hand of the president. It was one of a few images Julia said she used to decorate an anti-Bush Web page she moderated on MySpace, the social networking Web site that is hugely popular among teenagers.
Federal law prohibits making serious threats against the president, and Julia and her parents say what she did was wrong.
The couple are disturbed, however, that federal agents questioned a child at school -- without her parents present. And First Amendment lawyers question whether the Secret Service over-reacted to a 14-year-old's comments on a Web site made for casual socializing.

In a jail cell at an immigration detention center in Arizona sits a man who is not charged with a crime, not suspected of a crime, not considered a danger to society.
But he has been in custody for five years.
His name is Ali Partovi. And according to the Department of Homeland Security, he is the last to be held of about 1,200 Arab and Muslim men swept up by authorities in the United States after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
There has been no full accounting of all of these individuals. Nor has a promised federal policy to protect against unrestricted sweeps been produced.
Freddy Fender, the "Bebop Kid" of the Texas-Mexico border who later turned his twangy tenor into the smash country ballad "Before the Next Teardrop Falls," died Saturday. He was 69.
Fender hit it big in 1975 after some regional success, years of struggling - and a stint in prison - when "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" climbed to No. 1 on the pop and country charts.
"Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" rose to No. 1 on the country chart and top 10 on the pop chart that same year, while "Secret Love" and "You'll Lose a Good Thing" also hit No. 1 in the country charts.
Born Baldemar Huerta, Fender was proud of his Mexican-American heritage and frequently sung verses or whole songs in Spanish. "Teardrop" had a verse in Spanish.
"Whenever I run into prejudice," he told The Washington Post in 1977, "I smile and feel sorry for them, and I say to myself, `There's one more argument for birth control.'"
Fender was born in 1937 in San Benito, the South Texas border town credited for spawning the Mexican-polka sound of conjunto. The son of migrant workers who did his own share of picking crops, he also was exposed to the blues sung by blacks alongside the Mexicans in the fields.
But his career really began in the late '50s, when he returned from serving in the Marines and recorded Spanish-language versions of Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel" and Harry Belafonte's "Jamaica Farewell." The recordings were hits in Mexico and South America.
He signed with Imperial Records in 1959, renaming himself "Fender" after the brand of his electric guitar, "Freddy" because it sounded good with Fender.
Former Rep. Gerry Studds, who became the first openly gay member of Congress when his homosexuality was exposed during a teenage page sex scandal, died early Saturday. He was 69.
Studds died at Boston Medical Center several days after he collapsed while walking his dog, his husband Dean Hara said. Doctors determined his loss of consciousness was due to a blood clot in his lung.
Studds regained consciousness and seemed to be improving, but his condition deteriorated Friday because of a second blood clot. The origin of the second clot was not immediately determined, said Hara, who married Studds shortly after same-sex marriage was legalized in Massachusetts in 2004.
Studds was first elected in 1972 and represented Cape Cod and the Islands, New Bedford, and the South Shore for 12 Congressional terms. He retired from Congress in 1997.
In his early career, Studds was known for opposing the Vietnam War and military intervention in Central America. Studds later became an advocate for a stronger federal response to the AIDS crisis and was among the first members of Congress to endorse lifting the ban on gays serving in the military.
In addition to Hara, Studds is survived by a brother, a sister and four nephews.
