Team Up for Georgia Concert
Nelson & Carter
Willie Nelson visited former President Jimmy Carter, a longtime friend, to tape a television special and a free concert for residents of Carter's hometown. About 3,000 people attended Nelson's concert Thursday night in Plains.
The two were brought together again for a Country Music Television special, "CMT Homecoming: Jimmy Carter in Plains."
Carter said that in recent conversations he and Nelson "couldn't think of any issue on any subject" on which the two disagreed. "We have a long friendship," Carter said.
"I'm still a farmer," Carter said, noting that he grows about 3,000 acres of corn, peanuts and wheat. "I'm in the field every chance I get."

CBS Rejects Concert
Madonna
Even Madonna doesn't always get what she wants. A deal for the pop diva to show a tape of one of her concerts on CBS has fallen through. Madonna wanted the special to air for more than two hours and be commercial-free, said CBS spokesman Chris Ender. The network wasn't willing to give up more than two hours of its prime-time schedule and insisted on commercials.
CBS had expected to tape the special somewhere during Madonna's European tour. Concert specials have become increasingly popular for broadcast networks.

Defends His Mafia Roles
Robert De Niro
Robert De Niro dismissed accusations that his Mafia roles have smeared the image of Italian-Americans, arguing that he plays realistic characters including many who could not be construed as stereotypes.
De Niro's defense Friday came after the Order Sons of Italy in America, a fraternal organization of Americans of Italian heritage, wrote a letter to the Italian government, urging it to cancel its plan to award the actor honorary citizenship. The government rejected that request, and is expected to confer the honor next month.
"The characters that I played are real - they are real. So they have as much right to be portrayed as any other characters," De Niro said, during promotion Friday of the animated feature "Shark Tale."

Mum on Rumored Defeat
Ken Jennings
"Jeopardy!" whiz Ken Jennings is not answering rumors that his streak is up, but he's not denying them either.
After a report posted on TV Week's Web site that the brainy software engineer lost in a show taped Tuesday (that would air this fall), Jennings fielded questions in an interview with Ellen Degeneres on her syndicated talk show.
On the show, taped on Thursday and to air Monday, Jennings says, "Well, I think it was on the Internet and as you know, if there's something on the Internet, it's gotta be true."

Yeah, so what if Ken had to sign a waiver that says he'll forfeit all his winnings if he speaks of the outcome before the show airs...

All-Women 'Band'
P. Diddy
P. Diddy is back to "Making the Band" - this time, with all women. For three seasons, P. Diddy - aka Sean Combs - developed the now disbanded hip-hop ensemble Da Band in the show's second incarnation.
During the first season of "Making the Band 2," Puffy and his Bad Boy Entertainment team searched the country to construct the music group while the second and third seasons chronicled Da Band on the road and in the studio. But Da Band received da ax at the end of the third season when P. Diddy disbanded the group.
Auditions for singers and musicians for the as-yet-unnamed group are scheduled for the first two weeks in October in Los Angeles, Miami and New York City.

Justice California Style
Rhonda Miller
A woman who accused Arnold Schwarzenegger of groping her has dropped her defamation case against the California governor and a campaign aide to avoid paying $100,000 or more in legal fees.
Rhonda Miller wanted to appeal a judge's dismissal of her case. But her lawyer, Paul Hoffman, said Thursday that she settled for a guarantee from Schwarzenegger that she will not have to pay the governor's legal costs.
A day before last year's recall election, pitting Schwarzenegger against then-governor Gray Davis, Miller, a former stuntwoman, publicly alleged that Schwarzenegger groped her on movie sets while he filmed Terminator 2 and True Lies.
Schwarzenegger's campaign denied the allegations, and his campaign aide Sean Walsh suggested in e-mails to reporters that Miller had a record of prostitution, theft and drug-related crimes.
The records were for a different woman of the same name, and Miller sued, alleging she had been defamed.
The suit was dismissed in July when the judge ruled there was not enough evidence Walsh deliberately misled reporters or that Schwarzenegger knew about Walsh's e-mail.

Settles Some Scores in New Rap
Shaquille O'Neal
The way NBA star Shaquille O'Neal sees it, he's still the big cat, Kobe Bryant's not where it's at, and he's got the rap to back up the fact. And the Miami Heat center isn't crazy about the Detroit Pistons' Ben Wallace or rapper Skillz either.
O'Neal, when he hasn't been dominating basketball games, has dabbled in hip-hop over the years. His latest effort is a collaboration with DJ Vlad on the CD "Hot in Here Part Five."
On "You Not The Fightin' Type," O'Neal sets out to even scores with several people: Bryant, who he believes got him traded from the Los Angeles Lakers; Wallace, whose Pistons defeated the Lakers for this year's NBA championship; and Skillz, whose rap "The Champs is Here" celebrated the Detroit victory.

Compassionate Conservatives & The Santa Exemption
Utah
Salt Lake City's airport board recently proposed a change in the part of the aviation code that said small aircraft must maintain an altitude of more than 2,000 feet (610 metres) while flying over Salt Lake City. For years, Santa Claus and his reindeer were granted an exception -- but no more.
Tim Campbell, executive director of the department of airports, said the panel isn't staffed by a bunch of Scrooges, it was just trying to be modern and professional.
"We were updating the ordinance and this provision had not been looked at for a number of years," Campbell said on Friday. "Members of the panel felt it was just not appropriate," said Campbell, who voted to retain the Santa exemption.

Hides Job Ad in MyDoom Net Worm
Virus Writer
Times must be getting tough for computer virus writers.
Technicians at British anti-virus firm Sophos said on Friday they had discovered a plea for work inserted deep in the lines of code for two new computer worm outbreaks, "MyDoom-U" and "MyDoom-V".
"We searching 4 work in AV (anti-virus) industry," read the message. Because it was inserted in the code, the message was only visible to anti-virus professionals.
While the calling card may have won the programmer points for creativity, the anti-virus community was not impressed.

Personal 911 Anniversary Message
As a person who actually stood on the street corner on September 11,
2001, and watched the World Trade Towers fall down, after making
bush-toons for the internet about the newly Selected President GW
Bush being on vacation at his Texas ranch for four weeks during the
month of August, 2001, I was utterly disgusted watching the shameless
Republicans at the GOP Convention somehow claim the -GOOD- of 911 as
political gain for the radical NeoCon Bush Republicans! (??? What
Good I Ask???)
Tomorrow is the third anniversary of September 11, and I must tell
you deep in my soul I am still traumatized from witnessing the
horrible terrorist's attack in real time from 8th Avenue in
Manhattan. In my night-and-day-mares I can still smell the awful
stench of the WTC fires incinerating plastic and human flesh that
burned over three long tragic months post attack.
I still can recall the unreal serendipitous moment on the afternoon
of September 12, when walking by the Hudson River Heliport (34th
Street), I saw six huge black helicopters circling overhead and
wondered who on earth was landing nearby. Soon I witnessed US
Senator Hillary Clinton, Rudolph Gulianni, Governor Pataki, US
Senator Charles Schumer, the director of FEMA, and other political
dignitaries get off their black birds and hold an impromptu press
conference right beside me on the bank of the river at sunset. This
was the critical historic moment in time when the power-base
politicians of New York State first came to see the WTC tragedy on
the ground on the day after the attack.

O.L. Duke
Actor O.L. Duke, who appeared with Denzel Washington in the movies "Malcolm X," "Antwone Fisher" and "Out of Time," was killed in a car accident Friday, police and relatives said. He was 51.
Duke was returning home after performing in the off-Broadway play, "Waitin' 2 End Hell," when a car cut him off, said his wife, Monica Duke. His vehicle jumped a divider and struck an oncoming car, according to police.
Monica Duke said her husband was an avid actor who loved attending the theater. He often spoke enthusiastically about his work with other actors, including Washington, whom he counted as a friend, she said.
Duke found career success after he replaced Washington in the original production of "A Soldier's Play," his wife said.
He also appeared in the HBO series "Oz."

Bengal tiger mother Rani, right, relaxes with her three female tiger cubs whose fur colors are, from front to back, brown, gold and white, at their enclosure on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, in a photo released by the Hollywood and Safaripark in Schloss Holte-Stukenbrock, western Germany, on Monday, Sept. 6, 2004. Born on July 15, 2004, the three yet unnamed cubs surprised the park's director and wardens by presenting themselves in three different fur colors. Their parents - brown Bengal tigers Rani and Ratscha - both carry recessive white genes, director Fritz Wurm explained. The rare golden fur of one of the girl cubs is a mix of brown and white, said Wurm.
