Fish cats!
Marty, you always find the most interesting animal pictures, but the fish cats are soooo adorable! Can't let my girls (cats) see them, or they'll be envious.

To be honest, I'd never heard of 'fish cats' before, but damn, they're cute.

Purple Gene Reviews
'Action Jackson'
Purple Genes' review of the movie "Action Jackson" (1988) Directed by Craig R. Baxley ("The A-Team" - "Stone Cold"):
What do you get when you cross Apollo Creed with Shaft? Where do you find a double titty fest with Vanity and Sharon Stone? How do you get more than a Zero out of a movie that the "Rotten Tomato" meter gives O% ? ?????
Well….. you stay up late and watch "Action Jackson" with absolutely no expectations except for the drone zone!!! Even the insipid soundtrack with 80s' computerized drums and pre-programmed keyboard crap cranking at high levels….even the incredible complicated car crashes….even the dumb detective dialogue… couldn't stop me at 2 in the morning from plowing through this sort of reverse "Blaxploitation" Bomb!
I had to finish this flick before I fell asleep.
Jericho "Action" Jackson (Carl Weathers - "Rocky I" - "Rocky II" - "Rocky III" - "Rocky IV") is a Detroit police sergeant who for some unknown reason used to be a lieutenant and is always in hot water with his superiors. But A.J. (Action Jackson) has a bone to pick with Peter Dellaplane (Craig T. Nelson - "Flesh Gordon" - "Paper Dolls" - "Wag the Dog") a local car manufacturer…it seems that Peter is involved in a little murdering of local union agent and drug dealing on the side. Peter's wife Patrice (Sharon Stone - "Basic Instinct" - "Casino" - "Catwoman") finds out that he's got a little mistress action going with Sydney (Vanity - "52 Pick-Up" - "Terror Train" - "Neon City") and so after Patrices' shower scene, Peter gives her a long kiss and a bullet to the back.
Well, our man Action befriends Sydney and together they take on Peter…..As my favorite movie reviewer Billie Bob Briggs says…"We have 5 breasts, 16 dead bodies, 80 mile per hour car chase, 3 exploding cars, 2 balls in a jar….and ….SEQUEL FU!"
There never was a sequel and Peter goes down and Action gets the girl!!!!!
Purple Gene gives "Action Jackson" 2 faster than a speeding bullet cop chasing a car scenes out of 10 for being so riveting and ridiculous!

Chicago Declares
'Roger Ebert Day'
July 12 will be "Roger Ebert Day" in Chicago, the City Council declared in a proclamation honoring the Chicago Sun-Times movie critic.
Presiding over the council Wednesday, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley said, "I move the adoption of the resolution with a thumb's up."
A plaque honoring Ebert will be placed under the Chicago Theater marquee made famous from the opening of the old "Untouchables" TV show.
Ebert, a native of downstate Urbana, has lived in Chicago since 1966. He is the only journalist to win a Pulitzer Prize for movie criticism. He is syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate.

First Actor To Deliver Harvard Commencement
John Lithgow
John Lithgow became the first actor to be the main speaker at Harvard's commencement ceremony Thursday, playing the occasion more for merriment than drama.
Lithgow, a 1967 Harvard graduate best known for his role as a zany alien on the NBC sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun, prompted laughter from the 6,580 graduates as he recited a children's story he wrote about a female mouse studying science at Harvard.
Harvard president Lawrence Summers sparked outrage in January after suggesting innate differences might help explain why women lag in science and math.
Summers, who also laughed at the story, previously said Lithgow was invited to speak because he personifies Harvard's devotion to the creative arts.

U.S. Opens Archives
Military Files
Pfc. Steve McQueen was confined for being absent without leave, Lt. Clark Gable's cameraman enlisted with him and Pfc. Elvis Presley was a public relations headache for the Army, according to U.S. military documents released on Thursday.
A 1959 Army memo set out the Presley problem: "When Private First Class Presley was first inducted, there was considerable adverse public reaction ... alleging that he would receive preferential treatment in the Army. This impression has been largely replaced by a public impression of a good soldier serving his military obligation. ... Many teenagers who look up to and emulate Private First Class Presley will ... follow his example in the performance of their military service."
Gable, the star of "Gone With The Wind," enlisted Aug. 12, 1942, six months after his wife, actress Carole Lombard, was killed in a plane crash returning from a war-bond drive. He was described as a "motion picture specialist" and his weekly wage was listed as $7,500.
The archives also released military records on movie legend Humphrey Bogart, U.S. President John F. Kennedy, author Jack Kerouac, aviator Charles Lindbergh, heavyweight boxing champion Joe Louis and baseball great Jackie Robinson.

Veteran British stage and film actor Corin Redgrave was in a critical condition in hospital after collapsing with a heart attack during a political meeting.
Specially-trained police had to re-start the 65-year-old's heart after he collapsed while speaking in support of a local community of travellers at a meeting in Basildon, southeast England, a spokesman for local police said Thursday.
Along with more famous sister Vanessa, Redgrave has long been involved in politics and human rights, and has been active in supporting people detained as terror suspects in Guantanamo Bay, the US naval base on Cuba.

Hollywood Sleuth & Wiretaps
Anthony Pellicano
A federal court on Thursday ruled that prosecutors can comb through transcripts of wiretaps found in the office of celebrity sleuth Anthony Pellicano, in a case that could involve some of Hollywood biggest stars.
The ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Pellicano's argument that the November 2002 search of his Hollywood office was illegal, and that evidence seized there could not be used to convict him.
Pellicano, a private eye for more than two decades, called himself a "sin eater" for Hollywood stars and was often called on to keep his clients' names out of the press.

Sued Over Movie Production Delays
Steven Seagal
Steven Seagal has been sued for $14 million for allegedly delaying production on two movies. Seagal showed up late and left early while shooting "Today You Die" and "Mercenary," routinely rewrote and changed scripts on the set, and brought an entourage that interfered with film crews, alleged a lawsuit filed Monday in Superior Court by Kill Master Productions and its sales agent, Nu Image.
In one instance, Seagal allegedly arrived 45 minutes late while filming "Today You Die" and left the location 3 1/2 hours early.
Because of his actions, planned scenes were never shot, leaving the movie with a "material and irreparable problem with story logic," according to the lawsuit, which also seeks unspecified damages.

Denied Landing
French Fighter Jets
Nine French fighter jets and a radar plane had to make an emergency landing at Atlantic City International Airport on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
The planes received permission to land after air traffic controllers in the airport's control tower received a distress call from one of the jets about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
They taxied to a nearby Federal Aviation Administration ramp, where the planes parked overnight. The crew attempted to straighten out problems with refueling the jets for their return to the French aircraft carrier de Gaulle, Winter said.
The aircraft had been engaged in training exercises off the coast of New York and New Jersey Thursday afternoon when severe weather conditions along the Virginia coast prevented them from returning to that area. Low on fuel, the pilots originally asked permission to land at a U.S. military installation, but were denied clearance, according to a State Department spokesman.

2 Years Later
Kinzua Viaduct
The Kinzua Viaduct, once the longest and tallest railroad bridge in the world, hasn't been much of a tourist attraction since it was mangled by a tornado in July 2003.
Only 32,000 people visited the park last year, down from 188,000 in 1999. The tornado destroyed 11 towers of the bridge, but nine were left standing. They will be stabilized as part of $7 million in eventual capital improvements.
The nearly half-mile long bridge, 301 feet high, was built in 94 days using 1,552 tons of iron in 1892, then rebuilt using steel in 1900 to hold heavier trains. The last freight train crossed the bridge in 1959, which remained the fourth-tallest U.S. railroad bridge until it was destroyed.

Nazis Invented The Sex Doll
Borghild
The Nazis invented the worst thing ever: the assembly-line death factory. But they also invented something else, perhaps the only legacy of theirs that endures to this very day. During World War II, Hitler's war machine created the world's first sex doll: Borghild.
The "field-hygienic project" was an initiative of Himmler, who regarded the doll as a "counterbalance" for the sexual drive of his stormtroopers. In one of his letters, he mentions the "unnessessary losses" the Wehrmacht had suffered in France, inflicted by street prostitutes. "The greatest danger in Paris are the wide-spread and uncontrolled whores, picking up clients in bars, dancehalls and other places. It is our duty to prevent soldiers from risking their health, just for the sake of a quick adventure." One assumes Himmler also wanted to stop any racial dilution of the great German army.
The project was considered "Geheime Reichssache", which meant "more secret than top secret." Himmler put Dr. Joachim Mrurgowsky in charge, the highest ranking officer of Berlin's notorious SS Institute.
The world's first sexdoll - or "gynoid" - was built in 1941 by a team of craftsmen from Germany's Hygiene Museum in Dresden. The project was supervised by a famous technician, Franz Tschakert. He was the "father of the woman of glass," which happened to be the sensation in the 1930's International Hygiene Exhibition.
For the rest of an interesting read, Borghild
