In The Chaos Household
Last Night
Watched the LSU / Tenn Vols game....really wanted the Vols to win, if for no other reason than
to keep Nebraska out of Pasadena. Oh well.
Filled the evening with the Alastair Sim version of 'A Christmas Carol'...well,
I'm sated for the season.
SNL opened on a sour note, making Al Gore sound like a lisping Forrest Gump...well,
maybe Gump-like, but, he doesn't lisp.
Tonight, Sunday, on CBS, 'Max Bickford' is fresh, followed by a tv-movie,
'The Seventh Stream', where a seal sheds its skin & becomes a babe.
NBC has a 2 hour National Geographic special on crocodiles, including prehistoric ones, and then
fresh episodes of 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' and 'UC: Undercover'.
ABC regurgitates a tv-movie from last year, 'Santa Who', starring Leslie Nielsen, followed by
'Alias' and 'The Practice', unless you live in the LA/San Diego area, where these 2 programs
will be reversed.
On Faux, 'Futurama', 'King Of The Hill', 'The Simpsons', 'Malcolm In The Middle', and
'X-Files' are all fresh.
Everything on The WB also seems to be fresh.
Anyone have any opinions?
Or reviews?

Fabulous Actor Recognized
Rod Steiger
Rod Steiger received a lifetime achievement award from the New York International Independent Film and Video
Festival during a screening of his latest work, "A Month of Sundays."
The film, in which Steiger stars as a dying man who goes on a nationwide tour with his teen-age granddaughter,
was shown at the Vogue Theatre in Los Angeles Thursday.
"As you get more experienced and time passes, you appreciate such awards much more," Steiger, 76, said.

Becoming US Citizen
Jim Carrey
Canadian-born funnyman Jim Carrey said he loves the United States so much he plans to seek dual citizenship.
The 39-year-old actor told The Associated Press he wants to become an American citizen because he credits
the nation for his success.
"To me, this country defined me," Carrey said in a recent interview. "This country allowed my dreams to come true."
The star of the upcoming drama "The Majestic" and last year's "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas"
said he is still early in the application process, which can take up to a year.
Growing up in a Toronto suburb, the actor said he always admired the United States, particularly for
the entertainment it produced. "I always felt growing up that America was a big brother, protecting
us in the school yard," he said. "And also, all the things I loved to watch and was influenced by were Americans."
Carrey added that it's equally important for him to honor his Canadian roots by retaining his original citizenship.
"Canada is my home," he said. "It was a tremendous place to grow up. But I love this country. ... It's
the best place to be."

Born Archibald Leach
Died Cary Grant
The city of Bristol unveiled on Friday a statue of its most famous son, Archibald Leach -- somewhat
better known as Cary Grant.
Grant, who died in 1986 at age 82, was born and grew up in the western English city. As a teenager
he joined an entertainment troupe and went with them to the United States.
The life-size bronze statue is by sculptor Graham Ibbeson.
Bristol raised 60,000 pounds ($86,000) for the project, and the statue was unveiled in the city's
Millennium Square by Grant's widow Barbara Jaynes, who flew from Hollywood especially for the occasion.

'My Sweet Lord' To Be Re-released
George Harrison
George Harrison's No. 1 hit ``My Sweet Lord'' will be re-released soon and proceeds given to
charity, a spokesman for record company EMI Group Plc said Friday.
``We are definitely re-releasing it, and it will be for charity. It is the original version,''
spokesman Murray Chalmers said. ``But so far we have no date and no name for the charity.''
A spokesman for British music retailer HMV, owned by EMI and U.S. venture capital fund Advent,
said earlier this week that if ``My Sweet Lord'' were reissued before Christmas it would be a
sure-fire No. 1 again.
The record was No. 1 on the British charts for five weeks in January and February 1971. It was
the first single by a solo Beatle to top the charts after their breakup and appeared on Harrison's
album ``All Things Must Pass,'' which was digitally remastered and reissued earlier this year.

Producers Of 'ER' Developing Another Hospital Drama
For CBS
Emmy-winning ``ER'' producers John Wells and Lydia Woodward are teaming up to develop a new
hospital drama for CBS.
The network has given the project a 13-episode commitment for the fall 2002 season. The action
will be set in a San Francisco medical facility.
Woodward said it was too early to discuss details of the new project, except to say that it would
not be based in an emergency room, the setting for NBC's ``ER.''
``It's a challenge to go back into medicine and try not to do 'ER,''' she said. ``Having worked on
that show for six years, it comes naturally. So what's exciting is to try to reinvent the wheel yet
again and to find different ways to tell age-old stories.''
Woodward had hoped to set the new show in a city with more ferocious weather than San Francisco. But
with major shows already set in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Chicago, ``we chose a city (within
flying distance),'' she said.
Woodward and Wells last teamed to produce ``Citizen Baines,'' the fall 2001 drama that drew solid
reviews but never caught on with audiences. They asked CBS not to renew ``Baines'' beyond the show's
initial 13-episode commitment.
The duo shared an Emmy in 1996 when ``ER'' was named best drama. The show is now in its eighth season.
Bronze Age Roman City
'Nola'
Italian archaeologists have discovered one of the world's best-preserved prehistoric villages, a ``Bronze Age
Pompeii'' that was buried in volcanic ash near the world-famous Roman city almost 4,000 years ago.
The ancient settlement was overwhelmed by volcanic flow when Mount Vesuvius erupted around 1800 BC, smothering
the village near present-day Nola in southern Italy many centuries before Pompeii suffered the same fate.
``This is by far the best-preserved prehistoric village in Italy and one of the best in the world. Everyday life
in the ancient Bronze Age is preserved there,'' Giuseppe Vecchio, the director of the excavation, told Reuters.
Vecchio discovered the village north of Vesuvius while doing routine tests to grant a company a license to build
a shopping center and underground parking lot on the site. But the cross sections of the earth revealed part of an ancient pottery kiln.
``It was a complete surprise, a really extraordinary find,'' he said.
Archaeologists at Nola hope to complete their excavations in the next couple of months. They plan to
reconstruct the village at a nearby archaeological museum and possibly open the site to tourists.
Today, a giant pool of magma still lies beneath Vesuvius and extends at least 400 square kilometers under
some of Italy's scenic coastline, making a fresh eruption possible at any time.
The last major eruption of the imposing volcano, which overshadows Naples, was in March 1944, as Allied
troops landed in Italy during World War Two.

Where Were You In 1980?
More than two decades after John Lennon was gunned down by a deranged fan, devoted fans of the ex-Beatle
gathered Saturday to mourn on the anniversary of his death.
Hundreds of people surrounded the Imagine mosaic in Strawberry Fields, an area of Central Park dedicated
to Lennon after he was shot in 1980 by Mark David Chapman in front of the nearby Dakota, the luxury
apartment building where he lived.
They sang Beatles tunes, bobbed their heads to the beat of a band, burned candles and remembered the
singer who meant so much to them.
On a nearby bench, someone had left a posterboard, held down by four green apples, that said, ``Thanks
for the music, John and George. Imagine ... you two jamming somewhere and we say it's all right. We won't forget.''
With tears, flowers and hands raised in peace signs, Beatles fans in California gathered outside the
Capitol Records building, some saying Lennon's message of peace is more relevant now as the U.S. wages war.

'Firesign Theatre'
The city at night: one man walks the dark streets alone -- alone except for the voice of an omniscient
radio announcer and, oh yes, a talking dog programmed to turn on his master when he hears an Edgar Allan Poe parody.
Elsewhere, harried computer jocks hurtle off the information superhighway, happy shoppers sign away their
first-born babies for baubles, and an experimental cosmetic surgery begins to unravel as a breathless
reporter rappels for position on the building outside to broadcast the play-by-play action.
For fans of Firesign Theatre -- the four-man comedy collective that first erupted on Los Angeles radio 35
years ago -- the hard-boiled adventures of Nick Danger, Third Eye, represent a kind of familiarly surreal terrain.
But for the larger audience of newcomers to the recorded humor of Peter Bergman, 62, Phil Proctor, 61, Phil
Austin, 61, and David Ossman, 65, the effect can be a kind of audio vertigo.
With the television special, a monthly live show carried by XM Satellite Radio, and a compact disc,
"The Bride of Firesign," released in September, the self-described fighting clowns are looking to carry
their high-octane humor to a younger audience.
Die-hard fans don't have to worry about any easing up on the blistering wordplay, jarring non-sequiters or
refracted social commentary that were the signature of cult classics such as "Don't Crush that Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers."
"It's like reading a book. If you don't enjoy reading, you won't like the Firesign Theatre," says Bergman.
The puns -- like Nick Danger himself-- are still relentless, ruthless even. ("With Ruth gone, I have to answer
my own phone," says the ruthless Sam Spade parody.)
The cultural footnotes still fly past: Poet Robert Bly becomes a figure in a soulless corporate training tape
and architect Frank Gehry deconstructs a building so badly that it ends up with chain-link steps.
And commercial parodies pile up: U.S. Plus, an ominous mock sponsor, is back having discovered intellectual
property: "We Own the Idea You Thought was Yours."

Returning To His Roots?
Andy Dick
Andy Dick is getting back to his gay roots. The bisexual comic, who has lately been squiring a series of
beautiful, young, blond women, was fixated on a hunky boy toy at Out magazine's "Out 100" party at Here
Lounge in West Hollywood the other night.
Dick showed up at the stud-stocked soiree with Cassandra Peterson, a k a "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark."
Once inside, Dick made a beeline for his handsome pal, and spent an hour with his hand inside the pocket
of the lad's sweatshirt. Dick nevertheless refused to pose for paparazzi and was overheard groaning, "I
know I'm going to get in trouble for coming here."

The official BartCop Astrologer, Geneva, has provided another eye-opening set of charts!
A brief excerpt: " In January 2002, New York City Mayor, Rudy Giuliani will intimately know an experience and feeling that more and more of us are reluctantly facing: He'll join the ranks of the unemployed. Due to term limits Giuliani has not been able to seek re-election, after 8 years as one of New York's more popular mayors.
The question on most New Yorker's minds and lips is "What is Rudy going to do NOW?" Well, maybe The Stars can give us some clues.

Slavery Or Bondage?
Britney Spears
Pop tart Britney Spears has rubbed anti-slavery activists the wrong way with her latest single "I'm a Slave 4U."
The song, which seems to be more about a romantic entanglement than modern-day slavery, inspired an escaped
slave to write the songstress, asking her to consider the political implications of her sultry lyrics.
"When I hear you sing 'I'm a Slave 4U,' I hear much more than a simple metaphor," wrote Francis Bok, 22, who
was a slave for 10 years in Sudan.
"You've got the voice, please use it to educate your fans about slavery and urge them to become abolitionists."

Some people got an inappropriate case of the giggles at a recent screening of Cameron Crowe's "Vanilla Sky"

National Park Service Website Shuttered
The Department of the Interior has shut down its Internet access and some computer connections after a federal
judge here challenged the security of one of the department's computer systems.
The closing shut off the public from all the department's Web sites, including that of the National Park Service.
Judge Royce C. Lamberth of Federal District Court ruled on Wednesday that hundreds of millions of dollars in
a trust fund for American Indians administered by the department was at risk to security breaches via the Internet.
A court-appointed investigator had been able to hack into the trust fund accounting system at the department
and manipulate the financial data. The system manages about $500 million a year in royalties from land owned
by more than 300,000 American Indians.
Judge Lamberth's ruling came in response to a class-action lawsuit by Indian tribes seeking to block the
department computer sites on the grounds that they were dangerously unsecured. Outside parties, the
plaintiffs said, could easily break into the system and change the dollar amounts of grants designated
by the government's Indian Trust program.
Judge Lamberth instructed that any government computer that could gain access to the accounting system
be disconnected from the Internet to protect the trust.
The Internet blackout at the department has resulted in the loss of access to some critical information.
The Web site on which the United States Geographical Survey posts its earthquake data is down. If a major
earthquake struck, for example, the public would be unable to gain access to department alerts.

About Last Weeks Raid
OJ
After raiding his home this week, federal investigators are building a satellite TV theft case against
ex-football star O.J. Simpson, two law enforcement sources told the Miami Herald, which published the report on Saturday.
Agents from the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency searched Simpson's home in the Miami suburb of Kendall
before dawn on Tuesday, in what they said was an investigation into a suspected ecstasy ring, the newspaper said.
Agents obtained the warrant to search Simpson's home after hearing him in wiretapped conversations with
suspected members of the alleged ecstasy ring, the Herald said.
No ecstasy was found at Simpson's home, but agents took satellite dishes they believe were wired to receive
premium television channels without paying any fees, the paper said.
Authorities say they do not believe Simpson, 54, was a member of the alleged ecstasy ring, the paper reported.

Sidney H. "Buster" Kelley
Used car dealer Sidney H. "Buster" Kelley, who helped develop the Kelley Blue Book car-pricing Bible of
automobile values, has died. He was 92.
Kelley, who lived in Huntington Beach, died of cancer Wednesday at the Norco home of daughter Deborah Sanchez.
"Dad was a goer, always saying, 'Let's go for it,'" son Robert Kelley said. "He was very innovative. If told he
couldn't do something, he'd ask, 'Why not?'"
The senior Kelley was among the first auto dealers a half-century ago to use television commercials to sell cars
from his Kelley Kar Co. in Los Angeles. He also pioneered the five-year auto loan and he offered car insurance and extended warranties.
The Kelley Blue Book of Motor Car Values, the key reference for the automotive industry in assessing the value of
new and used cars, was first published in 1926 by Kelley's older brother Leslie. It contained prices and cash values
for thousands of vehicles.
But Leslie became tired of the car dealership and the Blue Book business, gradually turning over operations in the
1930s to younger brother Buster. Leslie died in 1990. Buster and son Robert Kelley remained co-publishers of the
Kelley Blue Book until about two years ago.
Kelley is survived by his son, his daughter, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held
Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress.
