Saturday Night Live's Rehearsal
Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore was at the NBC studios at 30 Rock Friday rehearsing for "Saturday
Night Live" when word of the anthrax scare came. One source claimed that she
fled the building in tears and refused to go back. But producer Lorne Michaels
told PAGE SIX Barrymore did return to finish the rehearsal and all systems are go.
"Drew's been great, I must say," Michaels said. "It was a little scary, flying
here first of all and then this . . . We're all hoping everything is okay."

Rival Fund Raisers
Mick & Paul & Michael
Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, who don't get along, are organizing rival
benefits for World Trade Center victims - and Mick Jagger got caught in the
middle. The Rolling Stone was set to perform Oct. 21 in the "United We Stand"
concert at RFK Stadium in Washington along with *NSYNC, Britney Spears, and the
Backstreet Boys.
But then Jagger learned Jackson had joined the line-up to sing his "What More
Can I Give?" and that the event's name had been changed to "United We Stand What
More Can I Give." Jackson is recording the anthem the day before, and has a deal
with McDonald's to sell the single at the fast-food outlets for $2.99.
Jagger, who was part of the United We Stand show as of Oct. 9, hadn't planned on
being an opening act for Wacko Jacko. He bowed out and joined Jacko-hater
McCartney's benefit, organized by Miramax Films and VH-1, set for the day before
at Madison Square Garden. McCartney has disliked Jackson ever since the
self-styled King of Pop outmaneuvered him to buy all the Beatles' songs.

Dressing For Success?
Oh, That Rudy!
Mayor Giuliani has agreed to appear on Showtime's edgy gay series, "Queer as
Folk" - and in drag. The Empire State Pride Agenda gay lobbying group enticed
the mayor onto the show by getting its members to pledge funds for disaster relief.
But Empire co-chair Jeff Soref tells New York magazine that having Hizzoner don
a dress was in fact the idea of Giuliani's flamboyant roommate, Howard Koeppel.
"I said to the mayor, 'Would you be willing to do it?' and he said, 'If it means
more money, sure,' " Soref tells the mag.

Disney News
Jay Mohr
Jay Mohr has inked a seven-figure overall deal with the Walt Disney Co. that
will keep the actor-comedian busy in a range of TV and film projects.
The first project in the works under the two-year deal is a variety show for
ESPN set to bow in the Sunday 8:30 p.m. time slot on Feb. 10. "Mohr Sports" will
range from interviews with sports stars and other celebrities to musical
performances to live remote segments.
Mohr's deal with Disney includes a first-look deal for film and television for
his Giraffe Prods. It also calls for him to star in a feature project for Disney
and to appear on ABC in a variety of hosting and guest-shot acting opportunities.
Sources said the unusually wide-ranging deal was spearheaded by Disney chairman
and CEO Michael Eisner after he saw Mohr subbing for Regis Philbin last spring
on Buena Vista Television's syndicated talk show "Live With Regis & Kelly."
"Mohr Sports," to originate from Los Angeles, was created by Mohr, his writing
partner Walter Gause and longtime manager Barry Katz. The half-hour show has
been given a 25-episode order from ESPN, where it will run as part of the sports
channel's upcoming three-hour Sunday-night block of entertainment-oriented programs.
Mohr, known for his role in "Jerry Maguire" and the 1999 Fox comedy series
"Action!" has most recently been seen on the small screen as the host of Fox
Sports Net's "NFL This Morning." He is the narrator of Fox Sports Net's weekly
biography series "Beyond the Glory" and is a frequent guest host for Jim Rome's
nationally syndicated radio sports talk show.
At present, Mohr is in the midst of a comedy tour, "Jay Mohr: Filthy Clean,"
that began in July and runs through the fall. On the film side, he'll be seen
next year opposite Al Pacino and Winona Ryder in "Simone," alongside Bill Murray
in "Speaking of Sex" and opposite Eddie Murphy in "Pluto Nash."

New Theme Song For Microsoft
'Ray Of Light'
Microsoft thinks its new Windows needs a Ray of Light.
The Redmond giant has licensed the Material Mom's hit "Ray of Light" as the
official theme of the new operating system Windows XP.
Teaser ads will begin running on Monday.
The company has already scrapped its plans to use the dubious slogan "Prepare to
Fly" and replaced it with the Sammy Davis-ish "Yes You Can."
In 1995 the Rolling Stones got $14 million for the use of their song "Start Me
Up," which was used to introduce the use of the START button, People magazine
said at the time.
As Microsoft moves full steam ahead with its implementation of Bill Gate's
vision of a connected world, Oct. 25 will also see the debut of the first
service of the .Net initiative.
On Monday the company will also announce upgrades to its AOL-styled Internet
service, MSN, to further integrate it into Windows.

Nicole Kidman
Actress Nicole Kidman says her high-profile divorce from Tom Cruise left her
``shaken'' but she insists she would love to marry again.
``...Divorce is divorce and it's a really tough thing to go through,'' she told
chat show host Michael Parkinson. ``(But) I'd love to get married again.''
Kidman made her comments in an interview to be broadcast on the BBC on Saturday
night. Excerpts were published on the BBC's Web site.
The star of ``Moulin Rouge'' said her two adopted children, Isabella and Connor,
had kept her going when things were tough.
``You have two kids and there's times when you say I just want to curl up in a
ball and never get out of bed, and then you have a six-year-old coming in and
going 'Where's breakfast?','' she said.
``You have to pick yourself up and move forward and that is what I am doing.''
Kidman reminisced about her relationship with Cruise, saying: ``I spent 11 years
with him and there's something strangely romantic about being very well known
and being together which people, I suppose, don't understand because you're in a
fish bowl, but you also only have each other because nobody else really understands.''

Mending Fences?
Paul & Yoko
Paul McCartney has urged Yoko Ono that ``there's still time'' to mend a rift
between the two over the Beatles song ``Yesterday,'' according to a magazine interview.
McCartney revealed earlier this year that he and John Lennon's widow had argued
over the writing credit to the song during the making of the Beatles
``Anthology'' album.
``Yesterday,'' like most of the Beatles songs, was officially credited to
McCartney and John Lennon.
But McCartney maintains that none of the other Beatles had anything to do with
the song. He said in May that he asked Ono to put his name first on the credit,
but she refused.
``It actually is one of the reasons that we're not the greatest of friends,''
McCartney told Reader's Digest. ``But if you're reading this, Yoko, there's
still time.''
On Oct. 20, McCartney will take part in ``The Concert for New York City'' at
Madison Square Garden, also featuring Mick Jagger, Macy Gray, Eric Clapton and
The Who, to aid victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

On The Injured List
Bruce Hornsby
Grammy-winning pianist Bruce Hornsby is hoping a broken wrist won't prevent him
from making scheduled performances.
The Williamsburg resident was bicycling with his family in Virginia Beach late
last month when he collided with one of his twin sons.
"I went flying over the handlebars," Hornsby said Friday. "My whole left side
got banged up."
Wearing a cast, the 46-year-old performed the next night at a fund-raiser for
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Warner.
"On Nov. 3, I'm supposed to play the national anthem for Michael Jordan's first
home game" with the Washington Wizards, he said.

In Memory
John Collins
Jazz guitarist John Collins, who played with Nat King Cole for over a decade,
has died. He was 83.
Collins died Oct. 4 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital after a battle with cancer,
the Los Angeles Times reported.
Collins was born in Montgomery, Ala., and grew up in Chicago. His mother,
Georgia Gorham, was a pianist and bandleader.
Collins briefly played clarinet before switching to guitar and moving to New
York, where he played with prominent jazzmen such as pianist Art Tatum.
Collins accompanied singer Billie Holiday and saxophonist Lester Young in the
1940s and played in bands led by Benny Carter and Fletcher Henderson.
He served in the Army during World War II, and played in Army bands.
Esquire magazine gave Collins its New Star award as best guitarist of 1947, his
lone jazz poll honor. Collins' 14-year association with Cole began in 1951, when
he replaced guitarist Oscar Moore. Collins played with Cole until the latter's
death in 1965.
Collins went on to tour Europe with his own group. He played occasionally around
Southern California in the 1990s but worked mainly as a private teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi; two daughters; five grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
