Re: Limp Bizkit
First off, I am no fan of Limp Bizkit. To me, it is pretty much the lowest
form of music. However, the story about the contest being a sham is pretty
much garbage from what probably is a disgruntled contest winner.
I have
worked for many Guitar Center's throughout Texas and California. The
tryouts are at 22 Guitar Centers nationwide and have been featured on
countless newscasts.
Basically, 100s of guitarist will first play ONE
MINUTE in front of a record label manager. Then a few are called back to
later play with the band. Then a finalist is announced and generally hangs
with the band and is now in a 1 in 22 position of being the new guitarist
for a multiplatinum band.
As for music theft, that's absurd. Whoever wrote
that email does not understand intellectual property laws very well. Limp
Bizkit has ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to anything they may have heard even when
performing with the lucky stiff who is jamming onstage with their favourite
band.
Now, please tune in Monday Feb 11th to CBS, NBC, and MTV news reports to
watch it happen live at the HOLLYWOOD GUITAR CENTER where I will be working
and handing out and extrordinary amount of food to the people who signed up.

Re: Black History Month on Comedy Central
Subject: Black History Month on Comedy Central
I was just thinking a little while ago after watching the promo for
Comedy Central's Heroes of Black comedy that there was an obvious face
missing from their line up. (By the way, saw the Chris Rock installment
and thought it was pretty good for as far as it went, but how much
ground can you cover in a half hour?)
Is anyone else out there scratching their heads in disbelief that
Bill Cosby is no where to be seen in these tributes? What gives? Isn't
he "Black" enough? Isn't he the one who broke all kinds of color
barriers back in the 60's and 70's? You know, the 1st Black comedian to
headline in Vegas, the 1st Black man to co-star in a hit TV show, the
1st to have his own show, etc., etc., etc.
Just wondering how a truly funny guy like Bill Cosby can be so
easily overlooked.

Last Night
Up front, once I realized that the Olympics were all tape-delayed on the west coast I pretty much decided if it
wasn't worth NBC's effort to show them to me in a timely fashion, I wasn't going to give a flying rat's ass over
any of it. What I saw last night was inexcusably sloppy for NBC, or even for a college TV station. I know
high school kids who are expected to be more competent, and are.
My computer seems to be having a case of the 'vapors'. It's not been pretty tonight.
Tonight, Sunday, CBS has a rerun 'Max Bickford', followed by the first part (of a 2-parter) tv-movie,
'Guilty Hearts', with Treat Williams & Marcia Gay Harden.
NBC is all Olympics, pretty much all of the time. Tape-delayed for anything west of the Mississippi.
ABC regurgitates 'Ace Ventura, Pet Detective' and then finally the conclusion of 'Alias' (the
one with Quentin Tarantino), followed by a fresh 'The Practice'.
Faux counter-programs the Olympics with a mostly fresh slate of 'Futurama', 'King Of The Hill', 'The
Simpsons', 'Malcolm', then rerun 'Simpsons' and a rerun 'Bernie Mac'.
UPN repeats 'Enterprise' and follows it with fresh 'Trackers'.
Anyone have any opinions?
Or reviews?

Did Good Deed For Fireman/Musician
Woody Harrelson
Woody Harrelson is making a dream come true for a firefighter in Calgary, Canada. Harrelson was one of the stars - with
Glenn Close and Richard Dean Anderson - at the Celebrity Sports Invitational in Banff last month. One of the volunteers
driving Harrelson around was firefighter Gary Reid, a father of three boys who befriended Harrelson, who has two girls
the same age.
Harrelson learned that Reid is an amateur rock and roller when he isn't in uniform. So when the benefit auction was held,
and an hour of recording time with Dan ("The Blues Brothers") Aykroyd went on the block, Harrelson was the high bidder.
"He bought it and gave it to me," Reid said. The smoke-eater arrived in New York yesterday for his session today at the
Connecticut studio of Niles Rogers, who will produce the recording. Reid plans to sing "It's a Real Mother, for Ya," a
tune by Johnny "Guitar" Watson, "but who knows what we'll come up with," he added.

Expelled From University
Anna Kournikova
Tennis star Anna Kournikova certainly doesn't need any higher education. But the gorgeous Russian was a student of Moscow's
Sport University - until recently. The blonde with the wicked backhand was expelled for playing hooky and having other
people do her work for her. Kournikova, who already makes millions more in endorsements than the less photogenic players
who regularly beat her, had her dad write term papers for her, Hello magazine reports.

'A Delicious Entertainment Burrito'
Jack Black
When Jack Black's fans attend his Tenacious D concerts, they shout out the names of his ... movies.
Black is one of the stars of the new film "Orange County." He's also half of the folk-metal duo Tenacious D, which recently
released its first album.
"There's a little crossover," Black told reporters. "People sometimes will yell out names of movies that I've been in.
And I scold them. And I ignore them. But one has helped the other. Acting has helped the awareness of the band. So it's
all wrapped up in a delicious entertainment burrito."
The 32-year-old says performing in Tenacious D gives him more satisfaction than acting.
Black studied the piano briefly and regrets that he quit before learning some ragtime.
"I took piano lessons as a child. The obligatory one year. And I got up to `The Pink Panther' and then I quit. I really
wish I would have learned `The Maple Leaf Rag' and `The Entertainer.'"

''Episode 2: Attack of the Clones''
'Star Wars'
The Internet's legions of "Star Wars" fanatics have once again leaked key information about the next installment of
the six-part George Lucas space epic.
Though "Episode 2: Attack of the Clones" won't be out until May, the dedicated cyber-geeks at theforce.net have just
posted the movie's "opening crawl" on their Web site, claiming they received it from two spies close to the production.
Among the most distinctive elements of all the "Star Wars" flicks, the crawls are the brief plot outlines at the
beginning of each picture following the famous line, "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . ."
"There is unrest in the Galactic Senate," the next one supposedly begins. "Several hundred solar systems, under the
leadership of the Rebel Leader, Count Dooku, have declared their intention to secede from the Republic."
Count Dooku, any nerd can tell you, is also known as Darth Tyranus, a Jedi master-gone-bad played by veteran actor
Christopher Lee. The "Republic" is the elected government which Hayden Christensen and Ewan MacGregor defend as Annakin
Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Of course, Skywalker becomes Darth Vader sometime after "Attack of the Clones."
"This separatist movement has made it difficult for the limited number of Jedi knights to maintain peace and order in the
galaxy," the crawl continues. "Senator Amidala, the former Queen of Naboo, is returning to the Senate to vote on the critical
issue of creating an Army of the Republic to assist the overwhelmed Jedi."
The Web is brimming with rumors that Skywalker's turn to the dark side has a lot to do with Jedis being forbidden
to marry, and Amidala being set up for marriage to a character played by "NYPD Blue" star Jimmy Smits.
The "Army of the Republic," meanwhile, consists of millions of human clones made from the DNA of bounty hunter Jango Fett.
The very first of those clones grows up to become one of the most infamous characters in the whole "Star Wars" saga, jet-propelled
killing machine Boba Fett.
As for the rest of the clones, those who've had a sneak peak of them in their white armor note the uncanny resemblance between
them and the ruthless storm troopers in the first batch of movies. Like Annakin, the clones go rotten and start killing off
the Jedi by "Episode 3."

Still Loves Hollywood
Chuck E. Weiss
Twenty-three years after his pal Rickie Lee Jones made him famous, Chuck E. Weiss is still in love — with Hollywood.
"I love this part of town. This little strip of street here is like something out of a Raymond Chandler novel," says Weiss,
gazing at one his favorite Hollywood hangouts, The Highway 101 Cafe.
Weiss, who has a new album, "Old Souls and Wolf Tickets," still lives close to Sunset Strip, which he, Jones and Tom Waits made
a center of the Los Angeles singer-songwriter movement when they all lived at the seedy Tropicana Motel in the 1970s.
"It was pretty much a madhouse," he says of the establishment that has since become a safer, if less colorful, Ramada Inn. "But
you know, Hazel the head cleaning lady is still working there."

And way back then, Duke's was the coffee shop of choice.
Jeez, just flashed on - what does ''Hazel the head cleaning lady'' clean? ; )

'More Limp Than Olympic'
NBC's Opening Night Coverage Is More Limp Than Olympic
By Tom Shales
World-class mistakes and monumental errors of judgments were, perhaps appropriately, part of NBC's coverage last
night of the opening ceremonies for the XIX Winter Olympic Games from Salt Lake City.
For the most part, the evening was dominated by glorious spectacle and that special sense of international harmony
that only the Olympics can evoke. You have to hand it to a TV director, however, who can manage to misplace the
Mormon Tabernacle Choir. NBC's man in the booth did. We could hear the choir singing the national anthem but only
a few members of the 350-voice group were glimpsed by cameras.
Incompetence at that level is Olympian indeed.
Katie Couric, wearing a goofily oversized red headband to keep her precious cranium safe from the cold, co-hosted the
opening ceremonies coverage with NBC Sports superstar Bob Costas. At the very outset of the telecast, veteran sportscaster
Jim McKay, who's covered many Olympics for ABC, joined the NBC pair but, perhaps because of illness or advancing years,
had difficulty speaking.

'The Bizzaro Games'
NBC's Olympic Coverage Hides Truths
By HOWARD FENDRICH, AP Sports Writer
Well, here we go again: The Bizzaro Games.
Another opportunity to watch the Olympics through the prism of NBC's parallel universe.
At about 11:45 a.m. EST Saturday, Italy's Stefania Belmondo won the first gold medal of the Salt Lake City Olympics in a
15-kilometer freestyle cross-country race.
At noon — 15 minutes LATER, for those keeping score at home — NBC aired a "sports desk" report from Salt Lake City.
"Wow, perfect timing," one might have thought.
Instead, the report had highlights from Friday night's opening ceremony. Then the anchor noted that viewers could tune in
at 3 p.m. to "see the first medal of the games decided."
Huh?
Hiding the result from viewers is bad enough. Implying to viewers that they didn't miss a thing is downright wrong. And it's
particularly odd in this age of instant news.

Experiencing Legal Difficulties
R. Kelly
Grammy-winning R&B star R. Kelly is facing a police probe of a new videotape allegedly showing him having sex with an underaged girl.
Chicago police yesterday confirmed they have stepped up their ongoing investigation into whether 35-year-old Windy City native
Kelly had twisted trysts with a minor.
Their probe was prompted by a 26-minute, 39-second videotape allegedly showing the singer engaged in a range of sex acts
with a teenage girl.
Kelly was slated to sing his hit "I Believe I Can Fly" in last night's opening ceremonies for the Salt Lake City Olympics.
The videotape was sent anonymously last week to the Chicago Sun-Times. It is the second Kelly sex video the Sun-Times
received since its December 2000 exposé of the singer-songwriter's alleged penchant for underaged girls.
According to those who've seen the tape, Kelly can be heard referring to the girl by her first name, and the girl calls the
singer "Daddy." The tape graphically shows intercourse, fellatio and urination games.

Irish McCalla
Irish McCalla, an actress best known for her title role in the 1950s television series "Sheena, Queen of the Jungle," has died. She was 73.
McCalla died Feb. 1 of complications from a brain tumor and stroke, her eldest son, Kim McIntyre, said Saturday. She had been
moved to a Tucson care home about 18 months earlier after being diagnosed with her fourth brain tumor, McIntyre said.
McCalla liked to say she was discovered by Nassour Studios while she was throwing a bamboo spear on a Malibu beach.
"I couldn't act, but I could swing through the trees," McCalla once told The Prescott Courier.
Sheena, a female version of Tarzan, had originated as a comic book heroine in 1938.
Most of the 26-episode syndicated series was filmed in Mexican jungles, and McIntyre remembers watching his mother swinging
from vine to vine and wrestling mechanical alligators.
She did her own stunts until the day she grabbed an unsecured vine and slammed into a tree, breaking her arm, he said.
After Sheena, McCalla had parts on TV's "Have Gun with Travel" and "Route 66," and appeared in five movies — "Five Bold
Women," "Five Gates to Hell," "Hands of Strangers," "The Beat Generation" and "She Demons," a horror film that became a cult classic.
McCalla is survived by another son, two brothers, three sisters and two granddaughters.
