White House Dissing Hillary
Sen. Hillary Clinton will have her first encounter with her successor since the
Jan. 20 inauguration Tuesday, when Laura Bush will speak at a children's
education forum hosted by Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.).
Bush had invited Kennedy, the Senate Education Committee chairman, to speak at a
White House summit on the topic this year, a meeting to which Clinton — who also
has tried to stake out children's issues as her own — was not invited.
At the same time, Clinton's staff shrugged off news that her biography on the
White House Web site ignores her
election to the Senate in November.
The Web site operators said they drew biographies from "The First Ladies," a
White House Historical Association book, which they said could not immediately
be found.
To read the whole, appalling story of the pettiness of repuglicans, Senator Clinton Shown Disrespect
This one really pisses me off.
Leave it the Grand Old Patriarchy to try to denigrate Hillary Clinton's legal,
uncontested, and verifiable election to represent the good citizens of New York,
whose votes were, surprisingly, counted.
And leave to the Grand Old Patriarchy to let Pickles take the rap.
And also leave it to the Grand Old Patriarchy to let the likes of 'Dr.' Laura,
kookie-Cokie, Babs Olson & the Queen of French fry bobbin' to do the underpinings
of their dirty work.
Hell, these bastards could teach Herr Göbbels a thing or two...
Cowards that they are, they're hiding behind the apron strings of women who own

Anne Heche's Family Responds
Crazy, or just crap?
If you ask her mom, it's the latter. Nancy Heche and two of Anne's sisters have
taken to the Internet to respond to the abuse claims made by Heche in her new
memoir, Call Me Crazy. The family members posted messages this week on
PreviewPort.com--a Website created by Heche sister
Susan Bergman--voicing frustration with the actress's latest version of her story.
"I am trying to find a place for myself in this writing, a place where I as
Anne's mother do not feel violated or scandalized," Nancy Heche writes. "I find
no place among the lies and blasphemies in the pages of this book."
The Chicago-based Website is a literary forum founded by Bergman, who is author
of the memoir Anonymity, about the secret life of the Heches' father, Don, who
died of AIDS. (Bergman was not immediately available for comment Friday.)
Earlier in the week, Anne's mother Nancy wrote on the Website that Heche has
"stopped talking to me. She made the decision to cut off communication."
Heche also has no communication with ex-lover DeGeneres. Earlier this week, when
asked by the Associated Press for her reaction to Heche's latest exploits,
DeGeneres politely declined to talk about her ex-girlfriend.

James Martin
As a gay man I wanted to throw in my two cents about Ms. Heche. I just wonder if
she was "gay" when Ellen was getting attention. Publicity is good for a career.
When Ellen's star dimmed Heche suddenly goes "crazy" and wonders about the
countryside in a bra.
Publicity is good for a career. Then she comes out of her "ordeal" and marries a
man. Marriages make the news. Publicity is good for a career. Now she is free to
play straight roles sincerely and people will believe her character. Lot more
straight roles out there than gay.
Anyway, this is just my musings. Everything she has said maybe true but I doubt
it.
~~ James Martin
James, I gotta agree with you all the way around. Rather contemptuous of her
to say that being insane made her gay, and a miraculous healing made her well,
and straight.
Koresh! I can't even keep a straight face typing that!

More Emeril Hype
``I do 98 percent of the cooking at home,'' says Lagasse, who has apartments in
New York, Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla., but calls New Orleans his home.
The family meals he prepares are very simple, such as meatballs and barbecue
ribs. And when he goes out to a restaurant, he's more likely to be at a
neighborhood joint ``owned by the little guys'' than a fancy four-star
restaurant owned by his food-industry friends.
Lagasse says his days off will be ``far and few between'' until his new NBC
sitcom ``Emeril'' - which debuts Sept. 18 - and his Food Network shows are done
taping around Christmas.

Bob Dylan
Folk-rock icon Bob Dylan has started work on an autobiography that will criticize
the way world affairs are being handled, as can be expected from the rebellious
US singer-songwriter.
"We are living in a science-fiction world where Disney and Disney's
science-fiction have won," the 60-year-old pop idol said.
"This is the real world. Science-fiction has become the real world, whether we
realize it or not, he said," adding that "if a writer has something to say, he
must absolutely do so."

Austin Powers & 'Goldmember'
Goldmember, the third installment of the wildly popular psychedelic superspy
series, is planned for a July 26, 2002, release, New Line Cinema announced
Thursday.
"I can't wait to start. We had a blast writing Goldmember. It's like a big
party," Myers said in a statement released by New Line, indicating he has
postponed his other projects.
For the third and perhaps final Powers, Myers' will recreate the title
character, his notorious nemesis Dr. Evil and Fat Bastard, the Scottish spy
who eats anything and everything. He'll also play a new villain, the titular
Goldmember, who, according to director Jay Roach, has some interesting qualities.
Other familiar characters expected to reappear are Mini-Me, played by Verne
Troyer, Dr. Evil's apathetic son Scott, played by Seth Green and Number 2, this
time played by both Robert Wagner and Rob Lowe in a time-travel sequence. And
in keeping with the first two films, star cameos with Bond-spoofing character
names are highly likely.

Hobbits vs. Harry Potter
The Hobbit is to go head-to-head with Harry Potter in a battle at the movies
that could match their rivalry in the bookstores of the world.
Hollywood takes up the challenge with the first Harry Potter film set to hit
the big screen in November. The first film in the Tolkien trilogy follows at Christmas.
``Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'' -- or ``Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer's Stone'' as it will be called in the United States -- gets its
worldwide premiere in London on November 4.
And then it is over to ``Lord of the Rings.''
The first of the $300 million trilogy, ``The Fellowship of the Ring,'' starring
Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett and Christopher Lee, is set to open on December 19
and become a multiplex blockbuster every year for the next three years.
When the film's official Web site (lordoftherings.net)
was launched at the start of the year, 350 million hits were recorded in the
first three months alone.
And Hobbit fever is already building up in the bookshops.
Publishers HarperCollins reported that sales have climbed 400 percent this year
without any marketing or promotion.

Michael Jackson Comeback
After a six-year absence, Michael Jackson hopes to build momentum for his
comeback and new album with his two tribute concerts to himself. But will age,
years of weirdness, and the ghost of Thriller be too much for him to overcome?
He's been Bad, Dangerous and even a Thriller, but there's one title Michael
Jackson must avoid as he makes his comeback: "The King of Flop."
In both concerts, where tickets cost as much as $2,500, Jackson is set to give
limited performances, one of which will reunite him with his brothers in The
Jackson Five. Though the concerts are arguably designed to fuel momentum for
Invincible , some argue they only attract attention to his eccentricities.
However, ghosts of Bubbles the Chimp, the 1993 child molestation allegations
made against him and other scandalous rumors are not only things that hound
Jackson. He remains haunted by the curse of Thriller and his desire to outdo
its once-in-a lifetime success of eight Grammys and 40 million records sold
worldwide.
"It's hard to sustain a career in pop, period," Light said. "Madonna never got
boring, never got out of the fast track. She's proof that it can be done. …
People can be forgiving when there's a great song, a great album. He [Jackson]
faces an enormous amount of obstacles but I wouldn't say it's impossible."

Glowing Salmon
An eerie glow from salmon drying in a smokehouse startled some residents of
Holy Cross, a Yupik Eskimo village of about 300 on the lower Yukon River in
Alaska.
Sandra Dementieff found that some of the salmon in her smokehouse was glowing
in the dark, something she had never seen before, according to a report by the
Tundra Drums, the region's newspaper. Some villagers wondered if nuclear
contamination in the Bering Sea was to blame.
But officials from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service determined that the glow was from phosphorescent marine
bacteria that had spread over the fish.
Ted Meyers, chief fish pathologist for the Department of Fish and Game, said he
found the luminescent bacteria when he studied a piece of the glowing salmon
sent to his Juneau office from Holy Cross.
Whether the glowing salmon is safe to eat remains debatable, Meyers said.
``The sample I got wasn't something I'd want to eat. It didn't pass my smell
test,'' he said.
